Default Honesty, Sharing & Good Will

I thought I'd post a wee note just to say thanks to those who have been coming forward about things that perhaps they have seen and feel are unfair, those who have shared both their good fortune and misfortune, their personal news and reviews and those generally acting in good will toward others. It is not always easy to do so and can often involve personal struggle, risk and the occasional leap of faith too.

It is in sharing and openness that we all as a community, can expect to progress and really build a lasting burlesque industry for the future. Too many don't share (whether that's resources, information or simply even good will itself) and some even spend their time and energy on spite. 'Cloaks and daggers' should be found on the stage, not behind the scenes.

Producers, promoters, performers, teachers and lovers of burlesque - please do strive to keep up the good work of mutual respect and support, remembering others and their hard work, desires and rights too.

Thank you, you all know who you are

Kittie, I couldn't agree with you more.

The other day I met up with my friend Jay. He's a self-employed architect. We spent hours talking about business strategies and pushing for fresh artistic contributions to our fields. There were so many approaches that could be applied to both of our industries, one of them being sharing. We both came to agree that trade "secrets" often hinder growth within an artistic field: If information is made free and available to everyone then everyone has to up their game in order to stand out. Very generally speaking, secrets tend to be harboured by those that feel insecure, hanging on to what they've got for fear that someone else will do what they are doing but better if the information/idea is shared.

This encouraged me to push my self-set boundaries with the pieces I write for 21:CP. I'm planning on walking a few tightropes and risking sounding like an arrogant, opinionated egotist in order to speak honestly and openly about one of my greatest passions.

    In my humble opinion ....

It often takes many years of experience/wisdom to realise that the best way forward is to help each other rather than try to hinder each other.

What goes around genuinely comes around.

People are going to follow their own plans or dreams regardless of whether you try to stop them - so why not just help others - even if you think they are in competition with you.

Life is about helping others and being a nice person - its not about running the most successful gig or being the most popular performer ...

A-Men to all of this! People should just be nice to one another, you get what you give from life, or at least you should.

Whilst I think you are right and it's a lovely idea, reality is somewhat different, sadly there will always be people out there that take everything and give nothing in return
