Whats in a name?
If itheres one thing i love about burlesque, its that element of creativity about it! From choreography to costuming down to ones stage name, its all about creativity and ideas galore. Coming up with a good stage name is pretty hard when one starts off. A friend of mine who is quite new to the burlesque scene wanted me to help her pick a name and i was a bit hesitant because i feel that burlesque names are a very personal thing kinda like naming ones baby i guess. She asked me where my burlesque name came from and that small question lead us to an hour long chat about all things burlesque in my life atm.
Iskra is the middle name i picked for myself because my mother never gave me a middle name. It is Russian for spark and it pays homage to her russian heritage as well being an apt description of me personality wise i think
. Valentine because Valentines day is my favourite day of the year, even more than christmas and my birthday. I hardly ever celebrate the latter three with the same gusto i celebrate Valentines day regardless of whether i am single or in a relationship.
I am kinda glad i went with Iskra Valentine because it just seems to fit perfectly.
So whats the story behind your burlesque name? Where did you get the idea? Where were you when it happened? It makes for interesting conversation and may even helps new burlesquers who want to come up with their own

Rose is my real surname and I was looking to keep it within my burlesque name. Royce was added for the -albeit slightly poor - pun on Rolls Royce.
I have also since discovered the dancer Rosita Royce ([ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5PEJmBdtAE"]YouTube - Classic Vintage Burlesque - Rosita Royce - Bird Dance[/ame]) from the 30s and I am happy we share similar names. I could perhaps do a tribute with pigeons....

What a great idea for a thread!
I wanted to use Lolly as it's what my sister calls me sometimes and I like it (but not for every day as it's a bit too cute!). I came up with a few ideas but Lolly Pops just seemed like the obvious choice as my burlesque persona is very sweet and cute. I googled to see if there was anyone in the UK using the same name. Should have tried similar names too, but I doubt anyone'll get me and the lovely Lola Pops confused

I picked Giza because I also belly dance and wanted something that was like "Little Egypt" and very feminine sounding. Giza fit both!
I also do a lot of latin dance and love wine so I picked Sangria because it sounded feisty but a bit sweet and fit well with the name Giza.
Overall it made me feel very exotic and I'm very happy with my name!

hi
Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet meet and fall in love in Shakespeare's lyrical tale of "star-cross'd" lovers. They are doomed from the start as members of two warring families. Here Juliet tells Romeo that a name is an artificial and meaningless convention, and that she loves the person who is called "Montague", not the Montague name and not the Montague family. Romeo, out of his passion for Juliet, rejects his family name and vows, as Juliet asks, to "deny (his) father" and instead be "new baptized" as Juliet's lover. This one short line encapsulates the central struggle and tragedy of the play.

I have to agree I love this idea for a thread!
My stage name Pearl comes from the Greek meaning of my real name and St. Clair is the original version of my surname. Next to burlesque im big into genealogy. Plus I love the look of pearls.
And like Miss Rose Royce above me I have also found an enchanting lady sharing a similar name "June St. Clair, the Platinum Princess".. Im still waiting that book about her to come in.. I discovered her in the book "Pretty Things" while I was kicking back in Chapters one day.
