    Default Rollers

Does anyone have any recommendations for heated rollers? Or is it better to try and do a set with latge non heated ones? I have long-ish layered hair, and want to create sleek 50s waves, not tight curls.

    Thanks!

    Hi!

I use heated rollers! Wait until you hair is absolutely dry before you put them in or I find the curls just fall out (I have very long, very thick hair) don't put too much hair in the rollers or it won't curl and spray with tonnes of hairspray!!!

I use revlon rollers that my Mum got in the 80's! But I've heard Carmen ones are quite good? I'm no expert but hope this helps!! xxxxx

I use Babyliss heated rollers, and because my hair is very fine and resists curling quite a lot, I leave them in for about three hours and spray curl defining spray on them before I put them in. Many's the time I've travelled with a head full of hot rollers! If you use the smallest possible curlers (especially on the top layers of your hair) the curls will start to drop so they won't be ringlets. Once you've taken out the rollers and the hair is completely cooled, you can use a wide toothed comb to run through the curls and remove the crispy effect of the spray, and you should end up with waves. One word of warning is to never try this for the first time before you go out! It probably won't work as well as you want it to first time and you'll get stressed and disappointed. It's all about experimentation and trying different things until you work out a method that's best for you.

Saying all that, I have been told that with my hair I should use foam rollers and do a wet set overnight, to get some volume into it. But the results of that are very very curly, especially if your hair is thick, so for sleek waves I'd say hot rolers are the best option for you - but then I'm no expert ...

Whatever you do... don't buy nicky clarke's anti frizz hot rollers... they don't work... at all!

I use Carmen rollers circa 1987! They still work really well but they take moons to heat up, lol. I think they work so well coz they have twenty years of hairspray stuck to them, haha.

I second the babyliss ones! They worked o my hair when it was to the middle of my back, and they work on my hair now that it's more of a monroe-esque bob. I have used them to curl other types of hair, and as long as you use a good setting spray/lotion, they work a treat.

    Hope that helps

Thanks everyone, I'll have a browse round Boots next weekend (post payday!) and pick up a set to practice with, or see if ebay turns up any that were unwanted Xmas gifts!

I have long, medium thickness layered hair and to get that wave I use quite small rollers, not the heated kind.
Put them in dry hair and leave over night. Remove in the morning and run a wide toothed comb through then mist with hair spray, be sure to sorta pat the spray so you trap fly aways.

Lotsa effort next to heated rollers BUT glam effect lasts for 10 hours+.
