Corset for wearing under dresses
Hi

I'm looking for a corset to be worn under dresses, to give a gored-waist look. Does anyone have one/can recommend one?
I'm on the verge of buying a What Katie Did Baby corset, which is made to be worn under clothing, but i'm not 100% sure about the short length... wouldn't it show a slight bump along the hip-line? But then, i suppose the short length is to make it less restrictive.
Any advice?WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

hi, i work along side a wedding dress designer, creating corsets especially for under her gowns and would agree that a longer line corset works much better, and sometimes it helps to have a corset made that curves in slightly at the bottom on the front, so it doesn't push the front of the dress outwards. hope this helps.

I sometimes make corsets for wearing as underwear. Single layer but strong. No matter what you do, you'll probably see a line under a straight skirt, but you'd want to keep it longer over the tummy.
Going without a busk gets rid of a bump too, although it makes it a little trickier to put on and take off of course.

I posted a very long reply on Kari Von Regardless's thread about corsets for people with spinal problems, so don't want to repeat myself here, but the double-layer power-mesh waspie I refer to there and make for my own clothes is not visible underneath fitted stuff : there's no busk, I use hook and eye tape to fasten it ( the nylon stuff, not the cotton with the chunky hooks), and I finish the top and bottom with a layer of 1/4" wide linen tailors' tape on the inside ( to stop the bones coming out) and a stretch lace like the sort you get on hold-ups on the outside. It takes 2" off my waist, especially at the sides, and gives a really firm smooth foundation without the sort of over-spill you get with waist-cincher pants, or the ridge you get from a corset.

That sounds great Viva, and thanks for the replies ladies
I'll have to look into the options you've suggested.
As no-one here has any experience of the 'baby' corset i might give that a go first, then if its not smooth enough i'll try something custom made
