A friend of mine just made some rather impressive star shaped pasties recently, I will try and find out how she did it but she is very talented so I imagine she just made her own templates.

It's not so much what is in fashion but what is suitable for your act. Most people have a specific theme or character in mind when they pick outfits including their pasties or tassels.

For a show near Valentines day I got some lovely sequin heart pasties with lace frill around the edges. I will probably wear them at other times of the year because the red goes with the red-and-black colour scheme of the rest of the outfit. The act is actually a Dia de los Muertos one and quite spooky, still a love-from-beyond-the-grave theme though!

I am partial to the sequin variety, the round ones with the spirally sort of sequin design are very versatile and if you picked a neutral colour like black, gold or silver they could work with many different acts in the future. They are very inexpensive to get hold of and can't be too difficult to make.

There are some amazing handmade designs out there, pick a theme and search etsy to bring up loads of wonderful pasties that would be suitable or ask on here and you will find that one of our more talented members will custom-make them for you.

The one thing that puts me off some pasties is if the backing isn't secure or doesn't allow for regular taping. The aforementioned red heart pasties look good but when I remove the body tape after a performance it tries to take the backing away with it. :S I am now going very gently with them and have ended up keeping a bit of tape on them permanently and layering new bits on top each time I use them, I'm scared they might get damaged otherwise. I may just re-line them myself.

The MOB dvd has a tutorial on it for making basic round pasties I think!

Try using a star-shaped cookie cutter
Make a regular pair of round pasties, then pop the cookie cutter on top ans trace the Star shape.
    Works for me!

But then when you overlap, it will go out of shape surely?

nope they dont. make a six point star and then you have to cut between the top angle between the points to the middle and then overlap one point completely over another then they go into the proper 3d shape.xxx

ps this is only from my practising at home and not professional at all so anybody feel free to correct me. xxx

Sorry, i should have explained it better
I mean make a pair of round pastie bases, so they're already overlapped and cone-shaped, then use the cookie cutter to trace a 5 pointed star (then trim into shape). Then you can decorate
It's a little fiddly sometimes, but it works for making nice even stars!
