Whilst not a hairdresser I am working on a time machine based on lenticular string theory.

Once ready I'll send you a pm.

Always be honest with your clients, if you aren't they'll have false expectations of you and there's nothing worse for business than a client who's been sold some magic beans. Even more so when all they wanted was their picture taken.

the main thing about 40's do's is to make sure it is tidy...away from the face...never straight...and if having a fringe then to makesureit is about an inch above the eyebrows.

waves, pincurls, or "fluff" (when brushed out), there areso many variations on an updo, some nice and simple and some really elaborate...if you can get your hands on a book called 1940's hairstyles by Daniela Turudich there are loads of ideas and even directions as to how to geta period cut which makes it easier to style into those very vintage looks.

you could also check out a website called the fedora lounge and the powder room which are stacked full of vintage tips of every kind.

    happy hairstyling hunny. xxx

Wheat can slow down/stop hair growth? Interesting.

Anyway have you tried Lisa Freemont Street on youtube?

She has loads of tutorials (my hair is much too short for them sadly), and she's cute as a button!

I second the Lisa Freemont Street Youtube channel. She's been such an inspiration.

The one thing is...many 1940s hairstyles weren't for super long hair. The Middy was the most popular cut and while there are a few versions (short-long middy), none were super long. Veronica Lake had very long hair. I've found that 1940s works best with shoulder length hair (or slightly shorter). My hair is longer than this...and I'm having a hard time with rolls looking the way I want them. I don't want to sacrifice length at this point (I will get bored soon I'm sure and get it cut)....so I'm thinking of doing more rockabilly styles instead of pure vintage 1940s...

Google the middy and you'll find some diagrams to take to your stylist if you want a true vintage cut. I'm contemplating betty page bangs at this point and going more 1950s/rockabilly. The best thing about hair is you can always change it!!!

And I also second the Fedora Lounge with its subforums (the Powder Room and the Beauty forum) I've learned SO MUCH!

If you get the chance to attend one of Anna Fur Laxis' pinup hair and beauty workshops, that should sort you out. She runs them in Leeds Fabrication home of crafty things in leeds .

I have long, thick, wavy, heavy hair...about the same length as Veronica Lake's was, or maybe even a tiny bit longer. But I have bangs, so I've been rocking the Bettie Page for a long time now. One of these days I'd like to sit down and see if I can attempt victory rolls! Here is a good victory rolls tutorial I found on YouTube a while back: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rof1K0_JKhg"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rof1K0_JKhg[/ame].

victory rolls get easierthe more you practise...if you have very fine hair you ca also use a rat/sponge roly poly cut to size to wind your roll around.. xxx

My hair is very thick so I'm not sure if a sponge roly poly thingie would work...might be worth trying, though! If not, I guess regular rollers will have to do.
