    Red face Feather Boa Fans?

    Hi all
I'm just curious if anyone has tried making big fans out of boas?
I really want some big ostrich feather fans but there is no way my bank account is going to allow me to buy them, or even make them!

Would love to hear your opinions on whether or not you think this would work.

    Thank you all.

I made my own ostrich boa fans. I saved about 25-40% on the retail price. Not much, but enough to make a difference.

Where did you get your feathers from? I've been looking at some and the 20" feathers are about £30 for 10, or is that normal? x

Ah! You mean ostrich feather fans, not ostrich boa fans?

Whenever I've bought long feathers for fan making, even the lowest quality (spads - with a straight spine, uneven widths and spindly fronds) feathers have cost me about £1.40 each (including tax and postage). The best quality feathers tend to retail at around £5 a piece: Expensive, but the difference is notable.

Oh sorry I read your last post wrong - do you have any pictures of your boa fans? And were they easy to use? thank you for responding by the way!

They're no way near as easy to use as feather fans. My boa fans weigh at least 1kg each - I've not weighed them, but I think they might actually be closer to 1.5kg each. They also need to be held differently and they move differently. It's taken me a long time to get confident with using them!

Due to their size, I often bring both my boa fans and my feather fans to a venue as quite often a promoter will misjudge the size of their performance area and I'll find that my boa fans are simply too large to use. As a bare minimum, they require a high ceiling.

    See them in use at 01:00, 01:05, 01:17, 01:19, 01:30, 01:43, 01:48, 02:00

Firstly - thank you for being such a big help!
I think I might just save up and perhaps buy a kit to make feather fans, although the boa fans do look unique, they do look harder to control.
    Thanks again! x
