Default Vintage hair on You Tube

Well I would never have thought to look on You Tube, but it seems there are tons of 'How to' vids on there about Retro Hair dos!

My fav so far is this one.. so thought I would share.. YouTube - 1940s Hair in Under 5 Minutes (Tutorial)

I much prefer the option of doing the rolls with a rat. I'm more a fan of the netty type ones as they're easier to pin in, but I've never found any small ones.

The make up video she links to at the end is really cute too. hmmm... empty house... make up bag here I come.... shhhh washing up I'll do you later...

So I popped down to the huuuge Boots opposite Debenhams on Oxford Street to get the foam rollers, of course I could not find any without clips. I manged to get hold of a net 'roly poly' though and lots of pins.

I sat there all night trying to get this damned Victory Rolls in, but it just would not work. I have a bob you see, with a few layers in it and my hair is thick, so it was a tough job!

I eventually got two rolls on my head, but I could not help thinking that they looked a bit too fat, and stuck out to much, I felt like Draculas bride of something...

It also turns out that my hair is too short for a Hollywood roll and that the Betty Page bangs did not cover the roller I was using properly.

So all in all, not a good result. I think I shall have to leave it to the professionals!

I saw this video at the weekend and I'm going to experiment when I get hold of some hair rats... (nice name)

Is it weird that I find it much easier without the rats? I just twist my hair around my fingers and end up with rolls you can see right through! They're not as nicely finished off though so I might give this method a go - but I wonder if you can tease the rats out once you've done the hair around them?

It's easy enough if your using the foam rats to push them out once you've done the rolls. I tend to use rats when my hairs not behaving as my 'empty' rolls aren't too bad. Although have never managed a back hair roll without a rat....

Will have to go buy some more flowers and bits though... so good for when you have one roll that won't behave.....

I completely know what you mean about YouTube! I've spent the last 3 weeks constantly searching and trying out new styles I found!!

I also went to Boots to buy the rats- they were so expensive and I couldn't get the rolls right!!

There is one girl who posts who I love tho YouTube - Pin Up Hair for the advanced twirler
She does amazing Pin- up styles and the twirling becomes so much easier after just a few attempts!!!

Rats can also be bought in claires I think they're a bit cheaper then the ones in boots. Someone told me Sally's does them but i couldn't say for sure.

I should think Sallys would do them but I had a look on the site last night and couldn't see any. I only saw bun ring things on the boots site - does anyone know anywhere online that does them?

I tried last night to do it just with my fingers and couldn't do it to save my life. I tried with a normal hair roller but I wouldn't have been able to slide it out because it had edges that stuck out.
