    Default Highstreet Hair Products

    I can imagine that the majority of us on here spend a reasonable chunk of money on hair products for our fabulous locks?!

    I go through a fair amount not just on myself, but also as part of being a stylist.
    Especially as I work on a restricted budget for most of the time, I have had to be quite choosey about what high street brands are value for money and what are not worth paying for.

    Here are a few tidbits in case you find them useful;

    Hairspray:
    •I actually don’t rate L’Oreal Ellnett hairspray. Yes is gives reasonable hold and the can is kind of retro looking, but it is expensive in comparison to other brands and doesn’t do that great a job
    •I give a thumbs up to Boots own brand of hairspray. Very pocket friendly and it comes in a variety of sorts dependant on your needs. Great hold for a great price in my opinion.
    •Swarzkopf ‘Got2be’ (in a bright yellow can) is great for very very firm hold. If you are having your hair in an ‘up do’ then it is great to keep it in perfect form. You will need a couple of shampoos to get it out again mind.

    Gels, pomade and fixing Spray:
    •For the best pomade out there, I would say you’d be far pushed to beat Dax. It’s reasonably priced, very accessible and the tin seems to last eternity!
    •I have recently been fond of using a gel spray instead of mousse. I would highly recommend Wella ‘Shockwaves’ gel styler. I use it on the area I am working on and once it is dry just combing it out a little (so to remove that cardboard look) and the style lasts all day!

    A cheats way to cover up your roots on inbetween weeks:

    •Although it would be nice to have freshly dyed hair all the time, it’s just not practical. As a red head myself, the colour is extremely hard to maintain. I do have a little cheat though. Lee Stafford hair products have brought out a ‘Colour Extreme’ spray in a variety of shades. There are probably other brands that do the same but this is the one that I use. I use it just to touch up my roots when I have finished my completed style and it just gives your hair colour a little lift.

    Enjoy

    I have used it with more complicated styles, or if I need to set the hair in rollers.

    Superdrug do a really cheap one (something ridiculous like 40p) that seems to do the job alright

    I think the best hairspray is Tigi Bed Head 'Hard Head'. It holds curls in my naturally super-thin and ultra straight hair so it wins my vote!
    For hair dye, I use Daniel Field Watercolours - no peroxide, no ammonia or other nasties, no eye-watering vapours, no animal cruelty and the same product is temporary, semi or permanent depending on how long you leave it on - it's fantastic!!
    I was really disappointed with Superdrug setting lotion, it made my hair horrendously static-ey (
