Making a Bra!
Ok so I have this idea in my head for a routine and decided that the whole routine would centre around a very glitzy bra, the problem is I can't find so I'm gonna have to go from scratch.
Now I know the easiest option would be to adorn a bra I already own, but I want it to be see thru so a bra underneath would ruin the effect.
So how do I make a bra? I spent about half an hour looking at a bra and I just can't work it what my easiest option would be?
I want it to be all sparkly, so diamantes, rhinestones etc but how do I get that to hold together without using fabric that's gonna ruin the see thru effect? I don't like the idea of flesh tone fabric :/ and how do I go about fastening it?
Anyone attempted anything similar to this before?WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

Bras can be very complicated to make (I've made a few for bely dance and one for my 'Ripper' act) so I would advise you to either adapt one that you've bought or make a really easy 'triangle' bikini shaped one.
Adapting one you've already bought can be done by using the bra as a skeleton. basically cut away all the main fabric from the inside of the elastic and cups (don't throw it away as you can use it as a pattern for your see through fabric. Basically, what you are aiming for is to be able to still put on the bra skeleton (straps, underwires if you are using that type). Using the fabric you've cut away, make a pattern on the see through fabric (ensuring the stretch of the fabric you've cut off is going the same way as the stretch on your new fabric), leaving enough around the edges to hem and seam. Also, when you attach your new fabric, hand tack it first but stretching the bra (I always fasten the bra around my legs and sew it with my legs open to stretch the elastic - sounds rude but it helps!!) so you can still put it on without losing the stretch.
The other way is a lot less work... basically, cut two triangles for your cups (I like to pinch a seam in the bottom of each triangle to make them more like cups). Hem the bottom so you can thread a ribbon through to tie around and sew ribbon to the top triangle parts to make a neck tie.
hope I've given you a couple of ideas... good luck!

Bras? Don't go there! And if you're going to put diamontes/rhinestones all over, then how much flesh will there be on show anyway? Do you want to display the nipple?
Only other suggestion : make a 'cupless' or 'underbust' bra : basically take a ready-made underwired bra, with a nice nude-coloured mesh back, and cut the cups out completely, leaving the underwires in place. You will still get support from the underwiring, but you can then just arrange strings of threaded sequins or stones across the gap, or attach hotstones to some narrow nude-coloured ribbon and do the same thing : just remember to work over a three-dimensional form ( i.e. another moulded cup bra if you don't have a dress stand, or even your own body) to make sure the lines gong over the actual breast are long enough. You can stick them to one another if you need them to criss-cross or do a spiders' web thing etc.
I cover bras of all shapes and sizes, but I'ld never try making a proper one from scratch.
Lilys' triangle bra instructions are valid, but personally I wouldn't advise for the fuller figure or the larger cup size.

I did a lingerie-making workshop this year and can confirm that making your own bra is rather tricky! My pattern-cutting skills aren't excellent and so it was far more tricky than I thought to make a bra that fits.
It's much easier to find a bra on eBay as a base, and then embellish it. Mind you... it depends on what you have in mind for the look, really.
Do let us know how you get on

I supose if you are experienced in these things, you wouldn't be suprised anyway. Or if it's like xmas presents, it'd be one of the ones you could guess by the shape of the wrapping...

Ooh, I was hoping to find all the answers in here! I'm after a sheer triangle bra with sequinned 'pasties' on the outside, like stripteasers in the 1920s and 30s used. Might try Lilly Laudanum's suggestion

Actually this is an old idea the glass bra was invented by a victorian inventor called Seymour Juggs.
