    Question Body Stocking SOS!

    Hello Again all,

My body stocking has actually arrived (only ordered it 15th Dec), so I have decided to crack-on ad get it embellished in time for Friday, so tonight is the night for crafting!

I'd like to attach a merkin to the body stocking, what would be the best method to do this, as it is not a lightweight fabric one that caould be sewed on, as it is leathette?

I also want to have some gems on there, is it okay to hot fox them with a wand? Or should I use a cold glue?

Finally, the V on the back is higher than I'd hoped and I'd like to cut it back, what do I use to secure the seam? Fixing liquid, machine stich, Zig Zag stich? Or leave that one altogether?!

    Thank-you XXXXXXX

If it's a thin body stocking (like a pair of tights) then don't use a hot wand to affix rhinestones, it'll melt straight through! I'd use E6000 or Gem Tac glue. If it's one of those thicker lycra dance body stockings, try the hot wand on an inconspicuous place (?!) first and see if it holds.
Not too sure about attaching the merkin if you can't sew it on

It is a 'tights' type body stocking so deffo no hotfixing then! With the merkin, the only thing I could think of would be to use sew on velcro, sew a bit on the stocking and glue the other part to the back of the merkin...I could try and sew through the merkin with a leather needle but I'm sure that would damage the glitter and beadwork?

Velcro bad. It will cause ladders in the stockinette if the hooky side catches on the fabric. Let me think about this and I'll get back to you. There's something in the back of my mind about buttonhole elastic on the merkin and buttons on the catsuit, but I need to cook it a bit more.
Codpieces were always just tied on, and in this context there are a lot of similarities. Does the merkin need to be detachable?
    I'll have a think.....

not detachable no, just stay on...I may just bodge it for this outing and make another fabric one for the next time and sew it on...I never think these things through!

OK, that sounds good. You probably don't even need to make a separate fabric merkin if you are wearing the catsuit all the way through the act : just bling the minge.
For the back neckline : what you really want is a good friend with an overlocker, so you can cut the neckline down and overlock it, which will stop the fabric unravelling but still give stretch. Failing that, I suggest you mark the new line in and trim about an inch away. Fold under once, just outside your new line, and zigger. Then trim the fabric close to your stitching and fold over and zigger again. Use a stitch setting that is longer than it is wide, if you know what I mean : you only need a bit of stretch, so if your stitch length and width are on a scale of 1 to 5 then use length 3.5 and width 1.5 or 2. Use a ballpoint needle on your machine, which is always advisable when sewing stretch fabrics, and a polyester thread reather than a pure cotton, as it will be finer and have a little bit of give in it.
