    Default vintage hair help!

    Hello!

I thought i'd post here with my hair worries and hope someone can help!
Recently my hair has grown from shoulder length to half way down my back. Its happened really fast for some reason and i'm really struggling to style it.

I used to do victory rolls and pin curls but now my hair is too long. I really dont want to cut it. Any ideas please?

    Thank you!

Heated rollers and then brush out so you get the soft wave but still have the bounce and create barrel rolls in the front or frame the wave around your face with a side parting.

The great thing with longer hair is that you will be able to get a lot more volume into your victory rolls.Certainly no need to cut it if you don't want to!
You may just need to change your current technique for doing the victory rolls. For example, it's quite good to use the tail of a brush to roll the hair around and then you can just pull it out once the hair is rolled to the top ready for pinning.

I completely agree with the heated rollers suggestion above. Most vintage styles require a good base and rollers is the start of the majority of styles.

I would also recommend as a wonderful source of reference for all vintage styles you want to create, Lauren Rennells books. Loads of people I know use them and highly recommend them including myself too.

I wish my hair would grow that quick!!

long hair is perfect for rolling! for one thing it's much less back combing! to keep your rolls tidy the best thing to do is back comb them a little for some substance to work with then just roll them slightly tighter than you used to to prevent huge rolls! you can also still pin curl your hair just take thinner sections and curl slightly tighter again. I currently work in vintage hair styling so if you have any questions let me know! hope this helps a little. Also curling your hair before styling it is a must for longer hair! it just makes it much more pliable and easier to work with also some kind of setting lotion beofre putting in your rollers will help hold the style better

Woo! Thank you so much ladies for your advise. I think I've been doing it all wrong! I'm now back combing as advised and its working a treat. I've just got to get used to the rollers now.
A hair tip from me, eat fish and prawns! I used to hate them but now I eat them all the time and my hair has gone crazy!
