Default Advice re: corsets and being measured for corsets

    Hiya ladies,

I could do with some of your expert advice on corsets or guidance on where to get advice and fittings!

I have a couple of corsets but I wasn't measured for them. They fit ok, but being smaller than the ideal well-endowed Burlesque figure, I really need my corsets to make the most of the little I have!

Ideally I would like to be measured so that I know what waist and bust size I should be looking for/buying. Can anyone give me any tips, or point me in the direction of a website that really has the answers?! or any corset fitting salons/shops in Warwickshire or West Midlands. as I do not want to go into just any shop that doesnt measure you proper;y?

Also do you have any thoiughts on training corsets...do they work, are they worth buying...?

So many questions but so many beautiful corsets to admire and not enough money to make expensive wrong purchases!!

Any advice or tips will be gratefully received!

    Thank you

    Sapphire

you will need a fabric tape measure with inches marked on it for this – most department stores sell them in their haberdashery department.

    1. Measure your waist at the thinnest point. Your waist is where your ribs end not where your jeans start. To find this point you will need to either
    a) stand in front of a mirror and raise your arms, your waist will automatically shape
    b) do the ‘little teapot’ dance and bending sideways will create a crease in your side – pop your finger in the crease on your side – that’s your waist!
    2. When you have measured your waist in inches you need to subtract 4 if the number was even or 5 if it was odd. If your number is .5 round the number up before you subtract
    For your length measurements:
    1. Overbusts: take the tape and measure from under your arm, where the top seam of your bra strap is to your hip, where the lower part of your side seam of your underwear is.
    2. Underbusts: measure from between your boobs, where your bra wires meet, to your pubic bone, the hard bit just below where your hipster knickers sit.
Please be aware your length measurements will not be exact measurement matches, just pick the one closest

I get my corsets from Corsets-uk on line. the quality is excellent and the fit is perfect. they have a good returns policy and the prices are out of this world!

    Hi

I am not all that well endowed so struggle with overbust corsets, to this end I tend to wear an underbust and a bra. Have you considered this?

My one big piece of advice though is never buy cheap corsets, even ones that claim to be steel-boned, they are a false economy. I've learned that the hard way!

It's not in your area but Lulu and Lush in London are brilliant and you can go in and get measured properly. Plus it's in Spitalfield which is a jolly nice place to visit

Hi Dissy, thank you for that, I shall wield my tape measure and do the 'teapot dance' later... hopefully armed with your extensive info I will have more of an idea what size I need. Many thanks!

    Hi Abbatha Dee,

its funny you ask about underbust corset and bra combo, as until a short time ago I thought underbust corsets would only be good if you had, well, a lot of bust!! lol But the last couple of weeks I was thinking that for my next routine I wanted something different to the bra/thong or corset ideas in my other routines ....and wondered if I could get away with an underbust corset and bra. Obviously you are proof that it may work for me too!

I may see if I can pop down sometime to London...good excuse for a day out!

Do you recommend any online site/shop for matching underbust corsets and bras, if I cannot get to London soon.......

Thank you so much for your advice

    Hi

To be honest I don't tend have matching as such more complimentary, for example for one routine I wear a green underbust with a black satin bralet from What Katie Did - looks very Victorian

There are various pictures on my FB page:

I also don't always wear a corset as you will also see!

    Hope that helps!

When it comes to corsets, it's not just a case of whether your breasts and waist fit in the right size, it's a case of the corset as a whole unfortunately, us women are never simple! I'm only 5'2 and I know for a fact that any standard overbust corset won't fit me as I don't have a standard size. For starters the length from my hips to bust isn't going to be the same as most peoples, my hip to belly button isn't going to be the same as most alongside that I have big hips, a small waist, small back and a larger bust - everyone's bodies are very different. There's so much that goes into it!

If you're based in the Midlands then I can HIGHLY recommend Booby Trapp Corsets as they're based in Liverpool. I have never met a woman before who knows so much about corsetry (and is exceedingly lovely!)! I've recently had two made to measure pieces from her and they are the best fitting corsets I own (that's including my other made to measure ones). Think of a corset as an investment and when you've got the perfect size it'll give you a much better shape .

Booby Trapp Corsets :: Luxury steel boned corsets, basques, cinchers, bridal and prom wear. Worldwide shipping.

PS: If you're worried about not getting your boobs into a corset (I assume that's what you meant) then underbust corsets are great. I'm not one of overbusts as I don't ever feel too safe or comfortable in them so I always opt for an underbust .
