Question What are the best make up brands to get the best berlesque look?

Hi I'm new to this but am looking for the best make up brands to get the berlesque look. I am very pale and find it hard to get z foundation that's light enough and that isn't greasy on my skin. I also use a powder to stop shine but it makes me look fluffy faced... Which is not good. Any tips or advice would be great!!! I'm looking for all make up which can give me the look including eyeliner, lipstick etc. thanks x

I'd say it's not about brands but more about technique and application really, and depends what you mean by "burlesque look"
I tend to favour a drag-inspired method of application for stagewear!

    Hi

I'm also really pale and I am currently using Revlon Photoready and the Rimmel Clear Complexion pressed powder for my base. They work fine I just use more than I would on a normal day and layer it up for heavier coverage. I also use a combination of YSL Touche Eclat and Benefit Boing concealer for hiding my dark circles.

I am going to invest in some Ilamasqua foundation though as I have heard such good things about it and they do pale colours. I've also just been using a sample of the Lancome foundation in their palest shade which covers beautifully but I'm not so keen on the smell of it, it smells like nanna perfume!

And the tip about drag queen is good - less is not more for stage make-up, you need to go over-the-top or it just doesn't show up under lights. I call it putting on Abbatha because on a day to day basis I wear very little makeup and what I do wear is to make me look better in a natural way.

One word for you hun .. youtube! Youtube is brilliant for videos on burlesque/vintage/drag make up! There are so many tutorials showing you how to apply make up and which brands work well. I'm always trawling it looking for inspiration and tips!

While we're talking about make-up brands, a friend of mine recently got auditted by HMRC and was informed that she could only claim for make-up if it was made by a professional make-up or stage make-up brand.

She could claim for MAC, but not for Rimmel...
She could claim for Kryolan, but not for no. 7...

Eyelashes, I'm assured, are OK to claim, regardless of whether they're Kryolan or Eyelure etc.

Fantastic! I always forget that I need to go a bit OTT with stage make-up. I should really practice this in advance, but usually spend more time thinking about other parts of my act and then forget! I need to practice with false lashes too

Hi Cherry, just looked on your page for a pic of you, but there isn't one there. Please tell me your hair and eye colour, and whether you have young or mature skin, and what look you want to create, for example 40's, 50's or alternative.

Youtube is definitely one of the best places to look for online tutorials but you need to have an idea of what look you are trying to create or you could be trawling for hours and not find what you want.
For pale skin, I have to say Illamasqua has it covered. Their 'Skinbase' foundation is wonderful and goes all the way through to white! Plus if you are unsure of what colour is best for you, they are really helpful for advice. I have emailed them questions in the past and they have always responded on the same day with really useful tips

I'm pale, and I use M&S Perfection Perfectly Smooth Moisturising foundation, it's got good coverage and is easy to build up if you need it heavy. I finish with their basic branch powder and blusher. It's useful to go for matte, as ones that promise to be 'illuminating' and have 'light reflecting particles' can make you look shiny and sweaty under stage/photographic lights. Dainty Doll is a new brand designed specially for pale people, I use their liquid eyeliner. I especially like these brands as they are not tested on animals, and the M&S ranges in particular are very affordable!
    Hope this helps,
    Lily x
