I think you may need to try a special glue. I am about to do the same thing to pair of leather shoes. I am curious to see what the solution is.

I should imagine that it won't work, because hotfix stones need a porous surface to grip to. I think it helps the glue to grip if it can seep into the surface a little bit. The best fabric for shoes if you want to rhinestone them is satin. Patent shoes would probably be too shiny and the glue wouldn't grip. But a while back we did have a Swarovski seller who was saying that Swarovski were developing a range of hotfix stones that would stick to non-porous surfaces - it'd be significantly more expensive than just getting plastic stones, but it might work.

I am going to ask around. However, I found this:

I've been using Aleene's Jewel-It glue to adhere rhinestones to my costumes.

I found the answer! Gem-Tac by Beacon. It it a multi-purpost adhesive that bonds glass, sequins, glitter, rhinestones, etc to porous materials.

I am crystalizing a pair of shoes right now and I am finding out (as the instructions say) that a bit of glue goes a long way. I am using a toothpick to dot the glue and then using a pair of tweezer to drop the rhinestone on the glue.
