    Default It's getting colder....

I know there was a (very useful, by the way) thread about autumn / winter vintage clothing but I have a more specific query.
I love wearing stocking ( seamed or otherwise) but as the nights are drawing in and the rain is pebble-dashing my calves with mud, what is a good alternative to getting drafty thighs?
I have quite an active job and it's not always practical to wear stockings but I still want my legs to look feminine and pretty. I'm not much of a fan of black opaque tights and flesh coloured tights always make my legs look a bit plastic-y. I've bought a few pairs of fishnet tights but they're always really tight at the waist and not very comfy on my toes.
    Any suggestions????

What about a heavier denier, patterned stocking or tights?

    Like these?

    Any use?

    "PRETTY POLLY NANOPAQUE TIGHTS
Developed in Japan, these have buckets of stretch and a real wow factor. One customer said about these; "Rock my world! They feel like a warm embrace on my legs and I never, ever want to take them off! More comfortable than jeans could ever be. It's like wearing pyjamas to work. Thank you SO much." And she was right! These tights are simply divine. Super soft and extremely comfortable, not to mention, available in four gorgeous colours - aubergine, teal, mulberry and black pearl".

Actually forget those - they're boring. There are some absolute wonders on the Mytights website - loads of funky tights - baroque swirls all up and down your legs, 50's pin-up girls on your legs, or comic book strips, tights with tassles on them - check these out:

CELESTE STEIN PIN UP (800) TIGHTS

CELESTE STEIN PLAYING CARDS (284) TIGHTS

Bunty tights - delicately hand embroidered with black tassels and jet black Swarovski crystals at the ankle.

and even: BEBAROQUE MISS GODIVA SCREEN PRINT TIGHTS which are available in purple or teal opaques for warmth but are intricately decorated with cord, jet black diamantes and Swarovski crystals! But then they are £37.50 a pair...but isn't a little bling an investment not a cost?
The Russian Doll Lass - like Shrek's onion, but with sequins...

Wow, i love the ones with the diamante back seam and the ones with the little ankle tassles.
I've just bought £40 worth of vintage stockings and fear I might have to have a tights splurge too. I've always considered tights one of the least sexy items in the world but I may be persuaded otherwise.
    Thanks girls.

If you do love the fishnet tights, you may want to cheat like I do, and buy the footsie tight things you can buy that go round the bottom of your foot and only cover the backs of your heels and toes. Like wearing the flat shoes you can get but in tight versions. I normally find a pair of these under the fishnets stops that blood reducing feeling in your toes, plus it means warmer tootsies in winter!

    Primark do 2 pairs for a £1 I think.

That's a really good idea, Tara. I'm also considering getting some wellies and some woolly insoles and doing what you said, Blitzgrrl. I used to do that when I had a long way to walk. I'd need to buy a little shoe-carrying bag. How sweet!

Wellies are a great idea, especially with the weather being as rubbish as it is at the moment!

I need to get another pair of wellies, something else to add to the list lol.
