Hair Dye and Chlorine
As part of my trying to lose weight thing, I'm planning to start swimming. I bought a polkadot bikini in Primark yesterday
but I'm a bit worried about my hair.
I dyed it red about 3 weeks ago. What effect might the chlorine have on this, if any? I am going to get a swimming cap (I've found some great flowery ones on ebay!) but I really wanted to start swimming this week. Do you think I will be ok for the first couple of times?WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

Hi honey
its blonde that you have most problems with or should I say bleach. You have to leave it at least a week before you go swimming or you will go green. With red it will just strip the out much faster color and leave it very dry. You can get shampoos from salons that help remove the chlorine from you hair. You can use them once a week but they are very intense so can again leave your hair dry. A good conditioner should really help. You have made me want to go for a swim now.

Oh and you can get coloured conditioning treatments that should help as well
- Oh and rinse your hair really well in the shower before getting in (will stop so much chlorine affecting it)

You've seen it! Well ish. It's the same colour it was when... the whole time you've known me actually. It was just getting a bit washed out and lonely so I put some more in there.
Ophelia, is it just bikinis you're not comfortable in? You can get some gorgeous 50s style swimsuits on some of the online shops. I'm hoping to get one but need to save up a bit of money first as they are about $50 and I can't justify spending that much on a swimsuit just yet.Snowflakes and Sparkles

Haha no. Though it is brighter than it was before- I guess a reaction to the dye that was still in there.
I'm dying it a dark brown as soon as it starts to fade, so it doesn't matter too much if the chlorine does wash it out.Snowflakes and Sparkles

Oh yeah I've seen them on pinupgirl clothing..and other websites. I like the wrinkly marilyn one..
Im not sure if I can totally justify that sort of money but maybe.. I could flutter my eyelashes at the boyfriend before he spends his money on more levis jeans
