Get a couple of long feather boas, in the middle sew them together for a showgirl tail

As long as you aren't too rough on your garments, sequined/beaded/fringe trim attaches pretty easily with hot glue and a few intermittent button-style stitches. I'm also a big fan of textile adhesive - just make sure to use it where it won't show because it will mark most fabrics.

I decorated my showgirl outfit with bits and bobs left over from christmas. I cut shapes out of a silver gift bag and used silver gift wrapping ribbon. I also found some narrow but quite bushy (for want of a better word) tinsel with little stars on it. These were all glued or tacked on. I suppose it really depends on how long lasting you want it to be. Mine was just for a fancy dress so it didn't really matter. You can buy stick on sequins if you don't like sewing. You can also get all kinds of beading and fringing from haberdashery departments.
good luck

Sounds like a great place to start - a lot of burlesquers who make their own costumes tend to start like this so you're in good company! :twothumbs:
If your budget can stretch to a glue gun that would be a massive help to you, especially if you aren't a confident needlewoman - you can get them in most arts and craft stores, even in Homebase and other DIY stores sometimes.
If you can't get hold of a glue gun though you will need to resort to needle and thread but attaching most beads, sequins and fringes to clothes is a relatively easy job (just be careful, when attaching fringes to knickers that you don't interfere with the elastic's ability to stretch - a few button stitches at intervals all the way around is generally the best way to go here).
As for sourcing the sequins, feathers and beads - really the sky is the limit here. Someone else has mentioned haberdasheries, there are also arts and crafts stores, eBay and online suppliers and some vintage shops will also sell them.
Also do not overlook any local flea markets and second hand shops - you can find some really good and unusual stuff that can be used for decoration there and they tend to be really cheap. You can also be fairly sure that anything you pick up there is likely to be unique to you! :cooler:
Anyway, best of luck with your showgirl outfit Candy - I'm sure it will turn out brilliantly!

if you get really stuck honey give me a shout and I'll advise where I can (I'm making something similar at the moment) also if you're sticking feathers so they lay flat on anything my tutor highly recommends copydex adhesive, she used it for her feather corset which was part of a stage production
