Thread: Need some help with fans please!

Hi everyone!

I am needing some advice on the construction of fans using the good old bamboo stave method. I usually use plastic staves but am making some fans for a class and don't want to make anything too expensive as its likely one or two will get broken.

SO...

I have bought some bamboo staves, but am a bit hesitant about just gluing the feathers on. Does anyone else have a failsafe method they use? Do you glue AND tie the feathers on - do you use some other secret method? I would just glue them on because its quick and easy but I really want to make sure they stay on.

I've tried examining photos of fans made with the bamboo staves but they arent high quality enough pictures to clearly see what the deal is.

I would be eternally grateful for any help or suggestions people can give me. Even a snapshot or two of your method to help me get a better idea. I searched everywhere but there is absolutely nothing out there on the intertoobs about making fans.

alot of people use glue guns and wire as if one gets broken its easy to replace
