vintage hair and make up books?
Hi All
Can anyone recommend a good vintage hair and make up book?
I am growing my hair for my wedding in August and want something vintage that I can work with after.

It's not a book but it's great to make reference to when you need a helping hand!

Ta-da!
Pin-Up Parade: Books, Magazines, CDs & Records

With clear, step-by-step instructions, Lauren explains, over 164 full colour pages, how to use tongs and different kinds of rollers and how to master the pin curl. Then she shows you how to achieve some fantastic 40s and 50s hairdos - victory rolls, waves and pompadours, the fake fringe (bangs) then more than twenty hairstyles called things like "The Vixen", "The Casino Wife" and "For The Boys." If that wasn't enough, there's tips on accessorising with scarves, flowers, snoods and hats, how to do a "Rosie Riveter" and then advice on how to achieve vinage make-up looks.
All-in-all, this is an absolutely invaluable book for anyone wanting to compliment their vintage-style dress with a vintage-style 'do.
Spiral bound, so can be laid out flat for ease of use while working from it.
And for make-up, Dani Richardson's article, illustrated by Charlotte Thompson:
Pin-Up Parade
Dani can do make-up lessons as well.

I bought one from Ebay - it's a reprint of an original titled 'how to dress you own hair' from 1944. It looks quite complex at first but is so worth the effort - it's the closest you'll get to authentic looking styles and even shows the different lengths for styles, diagrams of the original cut ( v shape 'page boy' to take to your hairdresser to copy!), which styles suit particular face shapes AND a vintage knitting pattern for snood!! All for £6-8! Will post a link if I can sort it. Good luck!

Vintage Hairstyling
I was looking at the book Helen recommends at Nina's Vintage Hair Parlour last week. It's definitely better than the others I've seen as it tells you how to do your hair using both traditional and modern equipment. I didn't know where to get it in the UK so I'll be heading over to Pinup Parade.
Unfortunately it all still takes patience and practice though. I need something along the lines of 'get up, shake hair, look like a screen goddess' and it doesn't tell you how to acheive that!

It's not a book but this video on youtube is amazing!
I used to struggle with victory rolls so much before i saw this and she makes it look so easy!
YouTube - 1940s Hair in Under 5 Minutes (Tutorial)
She's quite quirky! but shows you how to do the basic technique, once you've practised it looks alot neater than hers but she's doing it in a hurry.
I bought an old book on fingerwaving from a charity shop about 3 years ago and it might aswell of been in dutch for what i could make out of it! The diagrams are so tricky to work out and the captions next to the diagrams make little to no sense! I taught myself how to fingerwave in th end
