Originally the 'hourglass' traditionally described proportions of 36-24-36, but that was several decades ago, and I wouldn't hold much store about a precise definition these days.

An hourglass figure is the same measurments top and bottom and smaller waist, for example if i was a 34-25-34 ,i would be an hourglass, think of any hourglass shape
round into a curve smaller and round again, same measurments,im one inch off at the bottom lol xx

I wish i could achieve an hourglass figure.
When i tightlace i have a 'waspie' shape.
As much as i like the look of a waspie waist i think the hourglass figure is so much more elegant.
As a guy it's impossible to achieve an hourglass

It can also be someone who's wide-shouldered and wide hipped but with a narrow waist. Nigella Lawson is one. The measurements don't need to be spot on exact for the bust and waist, but an hourglass is wide/narrow/wide.

I think WKD define a vintage hour glass figure as a waist measurement 10" smaller than your bust, and Im pretty sure starla's right about the hips and bust being the same size? Also the 10" smaller waist thing wouldnt work once you got past a certain size...Its a very flawed concept!

I wouldn't say 44-32-35 is hourglass, as there is only three inches between the waist and hips, yet nine between the chest and hips. I'm not sure how that would be defined.

I'm 40-30-40 so about as hourglassy as you can get really. It can be highly impractical though. I'm apparantly a size 12 waist and size 16 everywhere else. If I buy something that fits my waist, it's too small on the chest and waist. If I buy something that fits them, it has no definition on the waist and makes me look like a tree trunk. Sigh!
