    Default Hair piece

    Hi all,

I'm in the market for a hair piece! I don't know much about them and I'm going to pop into my local wig shop and maybe the Debenhams wig department soon to have a little look but thought I'd ask here too in case any of you have any tips/great websites or sellers!

I want something dark brown to match my natural hair colour, I don't mind whether its natural or synthetic as long as I can curl it easily.

In terms of length my natural hair is just below my shoulders, and I want the hair piece to create the look of super big backcombed roots. I used to do pretty well with my own hair but I'm so tired of the time it takes to de-tangle every time I wash it when I've backcombed.

Would I be able to buy one hairpiece to do this job or will I need several?

Price range, well as cheap as possible, its only to wear on stage and to go out in occasionally so it doesn't have to look 100% natural, but something that looks good and will last a while.

    Thanks in advance! xxx

    Hiya,
I use lots of wigs and hairpieces, I think I'm right in saying that if you want to use any heated appliance on the piece it needs to be real hair as synthetic hair doesn't withstand the heat and singes easily. I tend to get all of my wigs and pieces from ebay, bit of a gamble but so far its worked. As for price I don't ever pay more than £15.I generally wear 1 clipped hairpiece on a wig to give the beehive look, more than 1 is too heavy. hope that helps. xx

Yup, Angel is right. You'll melt synthetic hair pieces!

Best thing is to buy ones that are already curled. You can still backcomb and use hairspray etc. on them.

No advice on where to buy though, sorry x

Nootttt actually true gals,as a wig dresser i know that synthetic hair CAN be styled.
You dont use tongs, you either wrap hair round a pole or something the size of what you want the curl to be OR wrap all the hair into rollers, then blast some hairdryer ,low heat !!! onto the hair, each curl for about 40-50 seconds ,allow to set,and voila!!!! or stick curled piece under hot not boiling water,i use the shower!!!

I personaly prefer synthetic in that case because the curl will STAY as when curling real hair it will drop, and real hair piece can be very expensive.
Youll be surprised how many pnups use synthetic,i know Masuimi does too.
You can also use your hot irons on synthetic BUT make sure theyre either the low temp ones you can switch to,and /or use a cloth/towel over the hair first, synthetic is plastic and with direct heat WILL melt,so test if using irons first, and use hot water method if wanting to straighten synthetic

For the best synthetic hair pieces I use the jessica simpson hair do,theyre truly amazing things, and you can put your hair up with them in,do anything with one really.

Orrr if you wanna cheat ahahah, ive got an old jessica hairdo piece, its had its time and now its life is over, ive bought some more hair, gonna trim out the old and sew in the new, this ones human hair as i needed something for a specific job,so ill sew the human hair into the synthetic piece, voila!! saved about £100 lol.

    xxxx

ps. the HAIRDO synthetic pieces are also one system piece,no having to put in lots of pieces ,just one that clips in over some of your hair, then let your own hair down, takes about 30 seconds to put in xxxx

Starla, maybe you can help me as well then please.

I am looking at wigs because i have very thick below shoulder hair that takes a while to style (and drops quickly regardless of what i use). I wanted to get a couple of wigs but because i only want them for quick routine they don't need to be uber realistic but still nice.

Also what is the best way of getting my hair under one of those cap things (i'm sure you know what i'm on about), and are all caps good or are some much better?

    Thank you.

Thank you Starla, that is a great help!

For maximum volume (similar level to Immodesty's) do you think I'd need more than one piece? I've realised I'll probably have to backcomb some of my natural hair as well but I want to do that as little as possible, its such a hassle to get out!

I think I'll definitely go with synthetic, whenever I wear it I'm going to curl it and my natural hair in the same way (even though my hair is naturally curly) just to make it all look uniform and lovely!

    Default where to get hair

do you have any local afro/caribbean shops in your area i buy my hair from them as they are alot cheaper than the high street, I tend to buy my own lengths and sew in my own clips. because my hair is green i invested in blonde human hair and dyed it green.

    where abouts are you based??

With one of the hairdo pieces i find its enough volume, and you can team that with one of the fringe pieces they now do and thatll be 60's style volume especially if you
    backcomb aswell lol.
i wouldnt buiy hair and clip it in personally because you cane get any volume from that, just length.
