Getting light hair black for one show...
My hair is strawberry-blonde at the moment. I'm needing it black again for a one-off performance in a vain attempt to look a bit more like Salvador Dali. The routine is far too energetic to use a wig.
Has anyone used a black semi-permanent dye on blonde hair? Does it wash out quickly and easily or does it just look odd? I don't think my hair could stand another bleaching session! Any advice would be appreciated.WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

Depending on how light your hair is you might get away with a semi permenant. I would suggest you go for a black/blackest black and do a strand test. It may be a bit patchy and your hair may take more in places so it may take longer than 8 washes to come out.
A quasi would be better but lasts about 24 washes.

Could you go for a wig?
Semi permanent on already bleached hair will not be semi permanent. I tried and it was with me till i died another colour.
Ebay is good for wigs and there are great for having at the back of the wardrobe.
hope you get things sorted

it won't wash out!!! semi-permanent dyes always stick to your hair, even if the initial colour fades away you are always left with a residue. ok if you are sticking to a similar shade to your natural colour but, in your case i think you would be disappointed with results and you could face having to pay a hairdresser to get your hair back to how it was. could you not get a black wig and attach combs to the inside so that it can grip to your hair? that could work and hopefully stay on during your act. good luck in finding a solution

If you use enough pins, wigs will usually stay put through energetic routines...especially if they have a fringe as you can wear them a bit lower on your forehead and use load of grips.
The only thing I could suggest, having recently seen your hair, is perhaps style it up and then use a coloured hairspray or gel. I expect even this will stain it a bit, but it should come out eventually with a clarifyling shampoo.
I would probably opt for a wig though!

I wouldn't recommend trying to dye it for one show. I once used some of that wash-in-wash-out mousse to turn my hair black. It came out purple and lasted for a week or so. My blond flatmate went a fetching shade of brown which actually suited him quite nicely - which was convenient as it lasted for a few weeks in his hair. Get a wig, you're pretty much guaranteed the colour will be right and that it'll only last as long as you want it to

This sounds like an AMAZING act! I can't wait to see it some day! <3 salvador dali. I would say use a wig too. However, I think wigs look odd on me sometimes so make sure it's not a cheapy one that sits all wrong, try and get a good one. You can get black washout hair colouring gel, places like Boots will sell them still, I suppose that might work but I think it would maybe transfer some black gloop on anything it touches.

Oh my goodness!! Do not use any dye on your hair, you have these choices, use a wig and lots of pins ( lots of strarlets use these even when being very energertic, if your moving around and its falling off , use more grips AND a hair net in the same color as the wig).
Otherwise you will have to say goodbye to your hair color , you could go to a professional hairstylist and explain your problem, they coul dye it black or semi very dark brown, but your looking at a few sessions to get back to your original color, and a lot of maintainence and looking after of your locks.
good luck

Thank you everyone so much for the advice. I am well warned off semi-permanent dye. So glad I didn't just dye it!
The only problem with a wig is that I will already be donning a rather fetching moustache for this event and don't want to look like a drag queen... Actually, that might not be such a bad thing! Ok, a wig and plenty of kirby grips. Thanks.
