Pastie Making Tools?
Hello,
For those who dont know me, I make handmade lingerie. However soon I want to start making some pasties as accessories. Just wondering if there are any tools advised.
I hae heard a glue gun is a godsend for applique, so does any glue gun do or can anyone recommend any?
Also any other tools needed I would really like to learn about!
I've been looking at how to make them, and have a couple of pairs myself, but they still look quite tricky to get right!

Not having ever made pasties for anyone I can't really comment on the design/tools required although I have seen the odd tutorial on the internet in the past when browsing for other things, from memory all you really need is some sissors and a sharp knife (to cut the card bases) as I recall the general idea is to cut out some card circles a little bigger than the area you are trying to cover, then cut out a wedge so you can make them into cones, before covering with fabric/sequins/glitter or whatever.
On hot glue guns I can give a bit more help, hot glue comes in several different sizes, the most common (about 12-15 mm diameter glue sticks) fits the typical DIY hot glue guns (I think made by/for Bostic) however whilst these are very good for the DIY use they are not very controleable and can often lead to excessive amounts of hot glue going everywhere (which burns fingers like
) I'd suggest having a look arround craft shops and seeing if you can find the less common smaller sized one (arround 8mm dia glue sticks) these usually come with a fine nozzle which should be more effective for detailed/craft work, but make sure you buy plenty of gluesticks when you get it as unlike the DIY version they are nowhere near as easy to get hold of.
One thing to bear in mind is that the smaller glue sticks have a lower melting temp, on the plus side this means less chance of burnt fingers or destroyed materials, but on the downside the glue is not quite so effective

Thank you very much! I shall be on the hunt for one. As i thought there must be one size/tyoe for this type of crafting as I only ever used one in school and thought 'how can people make such delicate items with that'. As it was a huge one.
Thank you again!

Thinking about it, as an alternative you could probably use something like Evostick Impact adhesive, (use in a well ventilated space or get very high), this stuff is incredibly good at sticking wierd materials together and, if you get the tube, should be very controleable, make sure you read the instructions though, typically apply a light coat to each face being stuck together then wait 10-15mins before actually placing the faces on top of each other, many people don't read the instructions and leave insufficient time for the glue to become tacky :embarrassed: Yep you guessed it I'm guilty of making that mistake :embarrassed:

Aha! I just got my copy of "burlesque for beginners" whre there is an introduction to pastie making from ruby rouge- I reccomend you get the DVD, so you can pause and look closely at what shes doing, but she was basically just using a compass, scissors, glue gun, needle and thread plus card, leather and fabric. I was surprised at how simple it looked! and the finished piece looked SOOOOOPPPAAAAAAAA!!!!

Ooo I shall get looking into that one! As I do work better when get visual instructions as opposed to just reading from a page.
So thank you for telling me about it!!
Also I shall look into the glue as well!
