    Default Costume Design courses?

Is anyone on here a professional costume designer/maker, for theatre, tv, or anything else? How and where did you learn your craft? I'm really keen to train as a costume designer, and have just spent hours searching for courses online, without getting very far!

Do you mean online design courses? I doubt there will be many as it's a practical course.
Have you tried your local theatre? They sometimes need help or may be able to point you in the right direction.

looks like you're in the UK, so dont know if this will be any help for you.....

in the states, every local college offers clothing deisgn, sewing, and costuming courses, and much cheaper than any private courses someone would put together.

Edinburgh College of Art do a costume degree course. I'm a professional costumiere and I graduated in 1997 from there with a BA (hons) in Theatre Costume Design but I believe the course has changed a little since then and is design for all types of performance now. Missy Malone did the same course and graduated much more recently so probably has better info on what it is like now than me, but I found it a good course!

Northbrook College in Worthing also do courses, although I'm not sure what in as I'm on a perfromance course, but it could well be worth a look.

Yes I graduated for Edinburgh College of Art with a BA Hons Degree in Performance Costume Design in 2007.

It was a three year specialist course (but I did the foundation year too so it was 4 years for me).

I specialised in mainly costume design for Film/TV and Theater (I was more interested in the research and design stages) you could choose to do more set design if you were interested in that side of things and everyone had to learn practical (pattern cutting/sewing/fabric manipulation). Part of the course was also life drawing.

I would highly recomend it as a course, but it is HARD work. I was in college EVERYDAY 9-4pm and longer in my final year. It is so worth it at the end though.

I'm not sure if it's much use location wise but I think the RSAMD in Glasgow does a costume design course or its a course that involve costume & set design, costume is definatley in there somewhere though!
