North West Burlesque Society Meeting - April 25th 2010, Manchester

After the great success of our first meeting (thanks to those who came!) we’re almost ready for our second.

The next meeting will be held on Sunday 25th April between 4pm – 8pm at The Corner in Fallowfield, Manchester.

The meeting will contain the following:

25th April

Welcome - Ginger La Rouge

Katy Kamikaze- Basic Costuming Skills

Katy will be speaking to the group about basic costuming skills for burlesque including how to make things easily strippable, authentic to old school burlesque costumes and also how to make a costume 'your own'.

Katy will be bring examples of her own costumes, trims and fastenings.
There will follow a 15 min Q&A with Katy for any queries regarding burlesque costuming.

If a need arises for any specific workshops from this event then these will be put on at a later date.

A bit about Katy:

Katy Kamikaze first started her performance career when just a little nipper, taking ballet and tap lessons for many years and later concentrating on drama and performance in operetta as well as musical theatre.

In 2008, Katy graduated from University where she studied Scenic, Prop and Costume design (specialising in costume). This has ensured all her costumes are highly unique, exquisitely made and specific to her performances. During her time at university Katy took on modelling work, particularly pin-up and alternative styles, which led onto a keen interest in burlesque.

Making her mark as an inventive and original burlesque artiste, Katy has been performing for 3 years, taking a short break during this time to focus more solely on modelling work. Recently, Katy beat competition to win the 3rd round of the Northern bouts of the 'Tournament of Tease' and has successfully auditioned for and landed a part in the 'Missy Malone and friends' burlesque revue.

I can't love, I'm off to Thailand in two months for three weeks so all of my spare pennies are being saved up for that plus the neverending costume is (still) being made (argh!) so I'll be stitching and sticking for most of the weekend xx
