To make a mix cd, you wouldn't need to record the tracks in their entirety - just the segues between them and any voiceovers you put in - the promoter is interested in hearing you, not the music. They should already know what the music sounds like. I'm sure there's nothing illegal about recording your own output, and it's not as if it's for general release. The cd is just a vehicle for getting your product across to the promoter. You could always put it on a USB flash stick - they're almost cheap enough to give away now.

C'mon, weddings aren't that bad. At least every one's different from the last - especially if a fight breaks out, or the client scarpers without paying
While I'd like to do burlesque events, I'm not starting from nothing - I do have plenty of 'vanilla' work on the books! So wouldn't really want to get into sending potentially illegal CD's out to every promoter I can find, I'm looking for a targetted approach rather than a scattergun strategy...

In the meantime, I am assembling / creating a burlesque MC / compere character to go with the DJ package! Looking towards the ringmaster / carnival Master of Ceremonies sort of thing... keep y'all posted on that one.

The sort of wedding I do is the higher end / black tie and rarely have fights, they are too worried about spoiling their suit / hairdo. That's the good bit about a laptop DJ system - you can play games on it during the speeches! And I always get paid in advance...
