Featuring the Boneshakers Burlesque troupe, the Dagger Dames Burlesque troupe, Bella Sicilia and Cecilia Rouge.

Cecilia Rouge of Leeds Burlesque, has been running burlesque classes in Leeds at The Subculture nightclub since 2007 and has recently joined forces with designer Dawn Wood of Ages of Elegance to hold the ‘Summer Sizzles’ burlesque fashion show in aid of the organisation Thyroid-Disease.Org.Uk on July 26th

The show will be unlike any other fashion show Leeds has previously, seen showing both new and vintage clothing, corsets, evening wear, lingerie, bridal and menswear from local shops and designers. Dawn who was the uk Urban fashion Awards featured Lingerie Designer at their show in London in 2007 and has made clothing for a wide variety of clients such as the Royal Armouries, Bjork and the Norwegian MOD and will be showing her unique mixture of historical and contemporary clothing

Burlesque and thyroid disease may not seem to be an obvious mix but the illness which affects 1 in 4 of the population mainly women, causing hair loss, both on head, face and body, extreme weight gain or loss, changes in skin texture, depression, infertility as some of it’s symptoms can lead to lack of self esteem, sociophobia etc and the two hope to use burlesque with it’s celebration of the female form to help bring back the body confidence of many patients.

They are looking for sponsors to put on the show so that as much of the proceeds can go to the organisation and the money spent on setting up a support group in Leeds as well as writing information packs to help both those with the disease and friends, family and employers who often don’t understand the effects.
