Does this depend on whether there is one door though? I'm not a grammar expert, but my understanding is that the apostrophe indicates a missing letter - sooooo (and I know so only has one o) - does the apostrophe placed in the said sentence:
"The door's open for cocktails and poison from 8pm and the show begins at 8.30pm till late."
Mean the door is singular - as in only one door will be open? Without the apostrophe does it mean there are a number of doors that will be open?
Any English teachers on board?

I imagine the apostrophe is not needed, as The Mitre has more than one door. I used to drink there when I was at college ^-^ I can't imagine it being big enough for a performance but it's probably changed a bit since I was there last xx x
