Actually I have alot of respect for mobile DJ's, it strikes me as hard graft with often hard to please crowds. Is that mp3's you use? I'm a bit tetchy about the sound quality myself.

Good luck with your new night. Who knows where that might lead.

Sorry to hear about your cancer scare, I'm feeling tickety boo thankyou. I have a new job and more pennies to spend on pricey vinyl.

I kind of like lugging vinyl around, makes me feel like I'm doing some work and that Ive got something of value to protect and look after. I have a ton of mp3s but I only use them to make CD's for friends n stuff. I have DJ'ed with CD's but they are so tiny, I find track selection a chore, same with cue points. If they get damaged they are done for whereas vinyl will still play. Having said that I am gradually recording my vinyl in case I HAVE to use CD or a laptop. So many places are CD only nowadays, bah and humbug!:wallbash:

Hmm - vinyl vs. CD vs. MP3 - have I got onto a DJ forum here?

In the meantime, this morning while car booting, I found 2 Reader's Digest CD sets; 'Music and Memories of the 30's and 40's' --- one is a triple CD set of wartime songs, the other is a triple CD set of mostly show tunes and Tin Pan Alley stuff. Brand new and shrinkwrapped.

    Total songs - 134. Total outlay - £2.

Tell me where I can find 134 songs from the 30's and 40's on vinyl, in crackle / scratch free condition - at 45 / 33rpm - for two quid - and I might be converted.

    But probably not!

Good luck for tonight, I'm off to DJ a silver wedding party instead... so it's 80's night for me!

I'm so jealous of your find! Haha! Beware on assuming "crackle-free", though - I once tried to play some of Hasil Adkins' rawer tracks that he recorded himself in a shed, and the crackle and poor quality of the recording generally made it unplayable over a loud club sound-system. Such a shame!

In fact, a lot of the less famous / less commercial pre-60s stuff that gets released on CD compilations is often put straight onto CD with no cleaning. You can never quite tell how these older records are going to sound in a packed venue until you try though!

1930's, 40's is tough I admit. 33rpm didnt arrive until 1948 and 45 rpm debuted in 1949. Neither really caught on until the mid 50's. Still Ive got some nice early recordings on vinyl but i take youre point about CD's sounds like you got a bargain. The readers digest box sets are also on vinyl and can be picked up for a similar sum.
