    Default DJ for hire

    Hello lovely people.

Charming DJ for hire. Experience of supporting cabaret, touring with bands, providing warm up music and music for the dancing (audience and professionals). New to the burlesque scene.

Very eclectic range so very flexible but definitely have my own style. Do like using good old vinyl but can use CD at a push. I have a collection which I think fits the Burlesque Bill exceedingly well. Its a circus maximus of 50's-present day. Includes lounge, kitsch, modjazz, soul, funk, cult underground rock and pop, 5T's and 6T's rnb, ska and reggae, latin and exotica, old indie, soundtracks, guilty pleasures. Can also do more modern electronic beats but I'm a cut'n' paste man not a beat mixer.

I bring a good vibe, dress the part and I read a crowd well.

Based in Huddersfield, but would consider gigs elsewhere in the north (especially Leeds, Manchester, Hull, airport routes) or London.

Who wants to play? I do!

Hi Alixio - Do let me know if you get any offers... I do all of that, AND mix, have my own mobile roadshow - can't get to do a burlesque gig for free.

    Mixtape? What's a tape?

Of course I know what a mixtape is. I used to send them out when people still had cassette players in their homes / cars.

... but I'll give it a go, can you tell me how I'm going to email it? Or how the recipient is going to play it on their CD / MP3 player?

So there's going to be a lot of demand for 'doppest choons' and 'bombs' at burlesque nights then?

Ah how times have changed from when I last had to actually ask for a gig... there was me thinking that a mix tape would actually be recorded on a tape, like it used to be years ago! How stupid am I? :daft: You'll be telling me next that DJ's still use vinyl...

I'd best leave it all to the young 'uns then, get a nice cup of tea and play some of my old 78's for a while. And stick with the £300+ corporate / black tie gigs instead

    Hi folks

I should qualify the 'Mixing' statement. I do basic mixing (cut and paste) and I edit well. But seeing as a alot of my tunes are short and of so many styles and tempos and keys, beat mixing is rather difficult and in many cases quite pointless and I find it a chore to practice. I dont have any complaints. At parties and gigs I seem to fill dancefloors better than the DJ's who do beat mix. Concentrating on one style, keys, tempos and breakdowns can get in the way of the fun!

I must admit I've never met a mobile DJ with my tunes or my breadth of tunes so perhaps we should swap CD's. Alot of my records are rare and specialist and have never made it to CD. Seeing as your doing that rock night anyways, and you have your own kit perhaps you should set up your own burlesque night or make it part of the entertainment you already have. I'm actually doing a burlesque gig soon and Ive got the chance of another and Ive only been asking around for a couple of weeks. You can do it!

I'm advertising my services because I'm new to the scene and I've been out of the paid DJ circuit for a while because of illness.

Sorry you been unwell alex, hope your feeling better and things on the up for you-im had cancer scare last year so can empethise with you: so frustrating when you cant work, especialy when you passionate, and love what you do, and sounds like you are: technical skill is important, its vital-but if you cant read,or enthuse the crowd its redundant, theres a lot of precious djs out there who play for themselves and their friends, rather than for the crowd,: so good on you !

CD's? What are CD's? 15,000 tracks on my laptop saves me lugging lots of boxes of CD's around.

What, put a burlesque night on? Like this, you mean? http://www.bump-n-grindhouse.co.uk - the night I've been planning for five months now?

That'll be the only time I'll get to DJ a burlesque event, I suspect; And if I wasn't able to read a crowd, them high price 'vanilla' gigs I do every weekend would soon dry up.

You seem to have the 'X-Factor' as people are already booking you, so good luck and go to it! I really should just accept that being a mobile DJ means you are automatically labelled as the lowest form of DJ life - and stop moaning about it... *deletes DJ part from signature*
