From Friday 29th August until Sunday 31st August it's the Shrewsbury International Street Theatre.

I just thought I'd flag it up for anyone in the Midlands this weekend.

I have to admit I don't know a lot about street theatre (perhaps Amelie or some of the rest of you have heard of these acts) but I'm told all the acts are at the top of their field (I believe the hype) and allegedly there isn't another event like this for free in the middle of the UK.

You can find out more and see pics from previous years at www.shrewsburystreetfest.co.uk

Acts are performing through the days in 4 locations in Shrewsbury town centre (and it's not very big so you'll find them) and they're closing the streets off to traffic too so you can watch them without fear of you or your kids (if you have any) being run over.

And on Saturday night all the acts are performing new material in a two and half hour free show down at Victoria Quay in Shrewsbury (lots of nice pubs round here too).

Acts include Pedro Tochas, a sculpture clown whose work is described as a one-man Wallace and Gromit and 'akin to your favourite silent movie'; Thom Sellectomy, a comic sword-swallower, nail up tthe nose banger etc (I might be avoiding this guy though I'm sure he's fab, I'm too squeamish); Flying Bob on long high wire of death and egg catapult amongst other things; Skate Naked (they wear g-strings...) and seem to do everything you could ever imagine street theatre performers to do; Stickleback Plasticus, The Jim Show, Ron Pearson Magician, The Two Sopranos, The German Wheel, The Leopard Man, The Variety Spectacular, Sam Willis, Mike Wood plus loads of local teenagers doing circus skills and walkabout around the town.

I'll deffo be taking the kids down tomorrow, but thought I ought to mention it in case anyone else around the Midlands fancied a day out...
