Burlesque around South Africa
I'm quite interested to meet or chat to any performers that are based in South Africa (and that have experienced live shows overseas). Or if there are any South Africans that are currently abroad, in the burlesque scene?
I'm particularly looking for the rest of the country (or neighbouring countries), rather than Cape Town. Cape Town is far more "European" than the rest of the SA, and many have been performing burlesque (and their interpretation of it), as far as I know, since 2007.
I am part of a troupe in Johannesburg, called "The Curtain Call Revue". We are on a mission to spread the gospel of burlesque first around Jozi, and of course further around the country.
Burlesque is still fairly new to the SA, and there are quite a few misconceptions of it here... Especially since that movie came out last year! Everyone is riding on the burly wagon, and unfortunately have not fallen off as yet.... due to the general public loving the watered down version they think they know!
I discovered burlesque in London, 2008 and fell in love instantly. I enrolled in courses and met some phenomenal women. Thus upon my return to SA, I endeavoured to look for like minded people with a passion for art of tease.
Pass this on to any Southern African performers out there!
Much Love and Purrs,
