My first day of Dress Up.. happy 35yr feeling 18yr (yippe yi yayyy)
Today I spent about 6 hours dressing up, taking photos , making lil clips, all (homemade style
of the character i'm developing Miss Coco Pops. I had so much fun getting into character, reading the poems with all the clothes on, wow I felt sexy, wicked, alive, beautiful and very bad. The makeup was erm kinda dodgy (its my first time) but on the whole i'm really pleased.
I'm gonna start focusing now on memorizing the poems so I can start to develop a routine (oh and practice on my make up)
Do you think I should wait until i've actually completed a beginners course? so far all I know is from incessantly watching others.
I would love any feedback on my look
, if possible, and i'm gonna post the lil video clips I made at home in the week for you to hopefully comment on (fingers crossed)
Well thank you and all replies most welcome
Miss Coco Pops xx

I think this is a great idea!
Its really good that you are focusing on your alter egos personality. Hair and make up can only come with lots of practice. I dont think you should wait until you have completed any course before you start expressing yourself as a performer. Its better you experiment and find out what kind of acts you want to do. Its good that you are taping yourself aslo, lets you get to grips with facial expressinons and movments.
You go girl!!! haha, cant wait to see the pics!

I'm fully pinching your idea! Sounds like lots of fun. I'm a newbie too & I've got a week left on my annual leave so I'm going to do the same! My friend is also coming by to take a few pics too so I'll hopefully have a few to put up on my profile soon.

Oh thank you Beau Rocks for commenting back, its so nice to know i'm on the right track and not just being a bit of a looney. I must admit i'm really enjoying it, just playing. Do you find your character/alter ego just naturally grows and reveals itself whilst your just having fun?
Is it best to just go with what you feel and enjoy? rather than look to be like someone you admire ? orrrrr can ya just mix it all up ?
Does your character feel different on some days? and the way you want to look?
Questions bloody questions, sorry, i'm just soooo curious?
Thank you for reassuring me about the make up bit, god for a moment I was worried really worried (I was tryna think of how I could incorporate the not so good make up into my look lol glad its not so important now)
Thank you again xx
By the way Living Doll kicks ass !

Please message me when you put some photos up, it'd be lovely to see the way a character transform over time ( like a butterfly )
Are you gonna try and look for classes?
Have Fun x

Miss coco thanks for your last messege, from myself and my girlfriend too. Yesterday i saw your pics and they are a great start!...
My character had a lot of transformations to the last version of today. And all of that I did it live.Show by show of Madame Toleave, she left a different skin, in the clothes, make up and soul too.
Maybe today Madame needs to let fly a little more her sensuality to reach to herself finaly.
You did a good design in your pics and your eyes are big and sharp. Just work the soul of your character.Just living into this, its appearance will came to you alone.
You are a very cute lady and you write very good....You makes deep words...
Regards to you from here

Miss Coco Pops I will be eagerly watching your character grow just as you do as a performer!
What a great idea to start developing your character, I think I might just do the same when I have time with the new show im working on, Im still working out the groundings of my cabaret as to where my characters voice comes from but Im hoping to workshop most of it over time in live performance.
I think just take a deep breath and get on the stage and see how it feels, how things slot in together and each time you do things will grow.
In the end you might find that you have not one but two or three characters that could emerge into all different sorts of acts that you could do which means many things to get excited about!! And many things to play with!!!

My stage persona is very schizophrenic!
I am sweet as hell one minute the next im in a bad mood throwing a tantrum!!! I love acting like a spoiled princess on stage coz it is so far removed from real life me. I am quite a nervous/clumsy/shy person, but on stage that all goes out the window and i get to be what i want to be - its fab, kinda like waling in someone elses shoes for 3 mins!!!
Its nice to massage your alter ego, after all on stage you can be whatever you want to be!
This is one of the main reasons i love burlesque...

Oh my God.... so many amazing people all on one page
so much advice, i'm so happy at all the replies. Each of you lets me know that the way i'm feeling is ok and natural. I'm quite moved by the all the responses (I'm an emotional old soul
).
The character feels differently, sometimes the complete opposite of how I was feeling just 1 hour before. Although they are all linked, but there are "different aspects" which have different tones, feelings, energy, but they all correspond to a greater whole ( I hope
)
So glad to know that its all part of the process and half the fun. Sometimes though I get really sad when going into character and then a rage comes over me (its exquisite), i'm quite nervous about putting those emotions on show for people to hopefully enjoy. I'm 100% gonna take the advice of playing with different emotions and taping them, so maybe I can start to feel more comfortable with those aspects.
Do you think its ok for me to put up videos of me dancing, even though i'm not all dressed up and in make up? (he he I taped it in my bedroom and you can see my unmade bed, clothes all over the place, high heels everywhere, oh and an unpacked suitcase
) Its me just spontaneous dancing in character for the first time
Snap Crackle and Pop x
xx
