Where to start
I've always wanted to do burlesque but don't get the chance to do it and having trouble finding songs to do a dance to etc. I'm just wondering if theres any one who can help me as I'm so stuck.
I can make dances up easily but I can never find the types of songs to dance to. I do burlesque and belly dance.
Just wondering if there is anyone near me who could teach me or give a little helping hand so I can start off burlesque as I only pin up model for now.

Music is tricky but I tend to use a process that I call the 'daisy-chain'.
Sit down infront of your PC with your burlesque notebook. Assuming you know the theme of your act, the character, style or mood pick a really obvious track that you would probably never use 'cos it's too obvious or someone else uses it or whatever - but it's in the right basic ballpark. Let's say for example you want to do a vain, strutting character you might use 'Shiva's Regal' as your starting point.
With last fm and youtube open put 'Shiva's Regal' into both sites. From that track you should get different bands, artists or musicians doing versions of that song. Any of the artists you like write their names down in your notebook. Then type their names in and listen to the other songs they have done. Any of those you like - write them down. Then go on lastfm (if you aren't already on it) and see what it recommends as similar to these songs. Listen to them and then write down the ones you like. Then listen to some other tracks from the people who made those songs, or other recordings of the same song by other artists.
I usually repeat this process for as long as I can stand it (the longest I have managed is about three hours). Write down all the ones you like and maybe mark your favourites with a star or whatever.
Then get up, go away from your PC and think about something else. After a couple of hours you will have probably lost all sense of objectivity and all the tracks will probably have blurred into one a bit.
The next day (or whenever you feel like you can stand it) go back and listen to all the tracks you wrote in your notebook. With your fresh ears, if the right one's there you should be able to spot it. If not continue the daisy chain a bit longer.
I find this process helps you turn up really interesting music selections and lessens the possibility of overlap with other performers.
Hope this helps!
