general burlesque advice
a couple of months ago, I stumbled upon a youtube channel that had burlesque lessons which was great for me as I don't currently have money to buy an instructional dvd or pay for lessons
however, the girl doing it posted her last video awhile ago with instructions that, if you post a video of you doing a burlesque routine of some sort to youtube, she'll send you a diploma
I want to do this but am completely terrified at the same time, does anyone have general advice or tips for getting over nervousness?WARNINGWarning: This is an Old Thread

Heya hun, I'd just be careful of who this girl is. If her videos have worked for you then that's fantastic but as for sending you out a diploma? I don't think that carries much weight because you've not been taught by her in a class setting with a structured learning program in mind. Is she a qualified dance teacher with a qualifications in her own right? Has she been doing burlesque or any form of professional dance for say the last 10 or 20 years?
If you want to put your routines up on youtube that's great. I've found videos are a fab way to see what I'm doing right or wrong and what I need to change or improve in a routine. They also help with nervousness because it's a little like performing in front of people but you can try in again and again. Though remember anyone can see then so make sure boyfriend/girlfriend/family/friends know about 'em. Just make sure you absolutely nail your routine and know it inside out!
Good luck darling!

I didn't think the diploma would carry any sort of weight in the real world, I just thought it would be fun to have and it's also an excuse to do something I've been meaning to for over a year...I'd definately clear it with my boyfriend before putting it online I'm pretty sure my mother would prefer to be blissfully unaware as, in a previous conversation, she stated that, if I ever did burlesque, she wouldn't want to see me perform

Ah that's cool then
If it won't cause any problems for you personally and inspires you to do something you've really wanted to do for ages then you should do it!
Good luck with your routine hun!

in a time i felt the same feeling that you feel... I am musician and my Burlesque proyect always were based just in my character and my style of songs... I saw things here and had investigate but i just left to my intuition makes the work... So I started with this in a country that is not too knowed and with a show of theatre in pubs and places that were not too commun wach that kind of shows. So my fear were great and I just was putting all this tension and extreme feellings in the energy to make my show... Is difficult when you are starting but I believ in the intuition more than whatever previus preparation... Ther some expresion that have shapes and instructions, but sometimes for some stranger gift of the desteny that shapes are like a part of you and apart whatever instruction it burst from you like a river of liberation flouid and naturaly...
