Totally new to Burlesque
Hi everyone
I'm looking for burlesque classes in the Burton on Trent area and noticed that Bijoux are starting classes next month, does anyone know of any more in this area as someone said in the last thread that they didn't recommend Bijoux.
Also as I'm new to all this what do I expect during the classes? what's the best clothes and shoes to wear?
Hope you can help!

Hello,
Have a look at this thread: http://www.ministryofburlesque.com/l...-approved.html
You'll need to wear comfortable (not baggy) clothes and heels. You may be asked week to week to bring something special like gloves, a coat, a skirt etc as you learn to peel these items off. You will eventually work up to a routine.
You will learn the importance of facial expression and story as well.
Hope that helps

I'm also completely new to Burlesque and hoping to find some classes in Hull, although I did consider trying to learn some at home on DVD before I join a class to help boost my confidence. Although I'm worried that I may pick up bad habbits learning at home with no instructor to correct me...anyone have any thoughts on this or general advice on being new??!!

I always say this... but if you can't find a class in your area, try joining a belly dance group... the basic shimmy, figure of eights etc will help with burlesque moves, as well as get your body used to moving in a certain way (not to mention give confidence). Also, if you've ever had any acting experience, or done any work on stage that'll give you a head start as all these skills are very transferrable to burlesque... plus youtube is a great tool if you are not able to get to many live performances... just seeing how different performers interpret a routine can be eye opening and inspiring... Have fun! x

Hi honey, welcome to burlesque!
There's actually basic classes currently running in Hull at the Dance Dynamic studio just off Witham. If you need any further information they've got a website or if you fancy coming down to Hull's longest established burleque night The Ringside Revue (this Saturday!) drop me a message at anna@theringside.co.uk xx
