Question Info on Bijoux Burlesque Leicester classes

I'm not sure if this is the right forum to be posting in but I hope it is, and I am sorry if it is not...

now to the point for Christmas my partner has paid for me to attend the 6week beginners burlesque course held by Bijoux Burlesque in leicester. so I am just wondering if anyone else has taken the course?
and if they can tell me what to expect and what I will need? (other then stockings and gloves)
do many people wear corsets from the get go?
and is it better do have the hair and make-up on to get into character?

I know that is an awful lot of questions any help or advice in general would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Micki,

Think I can help with this one, I did the Bijoux Burlesque Derby Beginners course about 6 months ago, still go to the weekly Derby Intermediate classes and love it. The Beginners class is great fun, as well as covering a variety of basic skills we learned a couple of routines over the 6 week course, as well as putting together our own on the final week so its a really nice introduction to Burlesque.
In terms of what to wear, the first couple of weeks most people wore comfortable clothes e.g. leggings/tshirts, but as the weeks went by more people started wearing corsets, however its really whatever you feel most comfortable in (I personally find a bit of red lipstick does wonders for bringing out my burlesque persona but its whatever works for you!).
In terms of what to take, worth taking along a pair of heels, we covered poses etc in the first class so you'll likely not need much else the first week. Then for the other classes you'll need gloves and stocking as you mentioned, and for some of the later classes we covered prop use so you'll probably need a parasol or umbrella and a fan (just a handheld one will be fine as we had a set of full size ones to practice with once we mastered the basic moves!).
Other than that just go along and have fun, hope you enjoy it as much as I have!

Thank you Hun, that's helped a lot!
I think I will wear leggings and stuff for the first one but maybe take a corset too in case I develop last minute confidence lol
Is a cheap brolly from primark suitable for rehearsal purposes? I'm a poor poor poppet (gap year student) at the minute

No worries, glad to have been of some help! Yeah you'll be fine with just a cheap brolley, if you've got one with a normal straight handle rather than a a curved/hooked end you'll probably find the techniques a bit easier, but really any brolly will be fine to get started with practising the moves. Have fun! x
