need a mentor
hello all!
this is possibly quite a random request - but please hear me out. as i understand you all will have massively busy schedules - as i do too (ft work/pt uni) but i am in need of help and i believe this was the best way to approach it. ive had a look at classes etc, but most are a little too late for me.
i am a postgraduate student studying an ma in performance practice. my first piece is due may/june area and the second (which can be a continuation of my research) sept/oct. my academic interests have always centrered around feminism and performance art. though i am predominantly a live art/conceptual/visual artist ie i have little to none dance/drama training. i studied art and it let me to this study.
im babbling a bit, but just trying to give you all a jist of the difficulty of this task. my MA is really PAR (practice as research) and my idea is to explore feminism and relative themes through burlesque.
ofcourse this would mean i need to start from scratch, i want to learn as much as i can (i know in a small amount of time- but that is the challenge) about the dance form, make up, the look, hair, style etc. in order to develop my own dance to be performed in april/may (again, another debate, whether in a burlesque show or out of context in a gallery space at my university). and perhaps if there is potential in what i am doing, then continue to progress over the next year and a half throughout the rest of my ma.
so, the reason for me writing all this is ofcourse, as the subject line says, i think a possible way to get through this challenge successfully is have a mentor to guide me through. ofcourse any advice / ideas / anything at all from anyone would be welcome at this stage. as i feel completely overwhelmed, excited, bewildered, too many words!
im also going to be blogging all the shows i see/any meetings/experiences with the culture/and ofcourse feminisms on here (if you want a good giggle at a newbies plight or even leave comments that would be awesome):
thanks for listening and i hope someone can help!

sorry this has taken such a long time to reply, ive had the flu.
my only concern is that i live in chester and dont have a car - as i work so much getting down to london on a regular basis would be difficult. plus the cost is a worry, as my MA is already crippling me.
burlesque probably wasnt the best idea due to these issues, but i suppose they add to the challenge. and again, id rather research something that actually interests me!
ill message you in just a moment beatrix, thank you
