Crisis of Corseted Confidence
Hi again lords and lovelies
Just after a bit of help.
Have you ever had doubts about burlesque? Not the love of it, but whether it is something that you, personally, can do? And if so, how did you deal with it?
Could do with a little sequinned pep-talk

Hey
If you had asked me this question a year ago I would have told you there was no way I would go on to perform. I'm a VERY quiet person and originally started workshops just to build my confidence up a bit. I never thought I'd have the guts to get up on stage and perform. I've always shyed away from making myself the centre of attention right the way through school and into my adult life so I thought there was no way I would be able to do it. But once I finished the workshops and after going to shows, meeting other performers etc I fell in love with the burlesquue world and decided to give it a go and now I perform, I co-produce a show in York, co-produce the York branch of Dr Sketchy's and co-run burlesque workshops in York as well. Honestly there are times when I doubt myself but once I finish a performance and hear the crowd cheering, knowing that they have had fun and been entertained, I feel amazing, the buzz after you get off stage makes it all worth while! xx

There have been quite a few threads on this but I cant find any of them to link you to lol! Most people go through confidence issues with performing, in fact I think if you are reflective and critical then its inevitable! I have gone through year long confidence crisis(es?) before. Sometimes it seems to come out of nowhere but more often its when I need a change of direction or an upgrade, or when I have been around very talented people (which is as depressing as inspiring sometimes). I guess you just forge ahead and try to up your game. If it gets really bad to the point where its really getting to you, sometimes taking a bit of a break and getting some perspective works, then you can come back renewed. Dont worry about it though, almost all of us go through this. x
