Aerial silks classes
Hi,
I want to learn aerial silks and wonder if there is anywhere offering lessons in the north west? I'm not looking to start till maybe Jan, as I need to build my strength back up first, but once I have, I quite fance learning a new skill.
If not silks, maybe trapeeze as I have done some of that before. Any ideas where to find classes?

I would recommend green top - they do evening classes if you are close enough and also weekend workshops:
Greentop | Welcome to Greentop- Circus North!“No doubt, a scientist isn't necessarily penalized for being a complex, versatile, eccentric individual with lots of extra-scientific interests. But it certainly doesn't help him a bit.”

Hey lovely! Greentop is awesome but it's sheffield based which is quite a way for you to go! Give Dani California & Millie Dollar a little nudge as both do it in Liverpool and Dani was looking for places in Manchester to learn.
Silks is pretty damn hard but you get there in the end, if you're wanting to build your strength up then pole classes are great but if you're like me and didn't fancy doing pole classes then I do aerial hoop too (as opposed to trapeze) and I found that it actually helped me with silks a heck of a lot. Greentop do beginners trapeze classes which are great. x

Cheers Chick!
I did pole work a few years ago, and am getting a pole for my house, my old one wouldnt fit because they are cut for the celing height. I'm hoping I'll click back into it and the strnegth will come back quickly!
I really enjoyed pole dance and was pretty good at it, but I like the elegant way silks move, and have a crazy idea that silks might be more portable...? because You could bring silks if the venue could rig them up, not so easy with a pole!
Where do you do your hoop classes? xxx

Silk is definitely portable (depending on how much silk you have/need and the weight/thickness of it then it can actually be quite heavy though!) but there's a lot more to consider as not all venue's can rig it up, there's insurance incase something goes wrong and not to mention that it takes quite a while to get really good at it and sleek! Having said that It's definitely something you should give a try though as it looks fantastic and is great exercise! If you've done pole in the past then you should naturally take to it as it's a lot of upper body strength. I'm hoping that in another two years I'll be a pretty good standard to perform it at shows (I'm a perfectionist!).
I actually did my aerial hoop & silk classes back home in Derby but now I've had to move them over to Greentop which isn't too bad but I'd advise you to shop around. My lessons back home were shared lessons so only cost £8 per time reguardless of if there were 2 or 4 people there (that's for an hour) but unforunately the cheapest lessons I can find right now at Greentop for what I want are £25 private lessons (for an hour)
If you wanted to do a lesson share then I'm more than happy to share with you, it would be an hour for £12.50 each but that said it's a pretty long way for you to travel! x

I'm not sure I'd use it much in performing or not, it would just be great to learn! I'll have a little shop around and see whats out there, see how quickly I get back into the pole work and then decide what to do. It's great that there are so many choices!
Have fun at NWBS today. I cant make it because I'm too skint to afford the petrol! Booo!
