Red face best place to practice routines?

    hello!

I was wondering, where do you find is the best place to practice your routines?
I have a small house, i can practice bits of my act in my living room but i run in to problems if i want to get my props out.

i was thinking about trying to find somewhere i can rent for a few hours.

Do any of you rent places to practice your routines?

I used to rent somewhere but now have a room in my house purely for this sort of thing...I would suggest looking at dance studios in your area to see if they will rent by the hour etc...I know once I rented outside of London the price dropped dramatically. I once rented a room for £5 an hour with all the equipment I needed (mirrors/music system/lighting etc). You will be surprised what you can find...or even community halls etc.

Khandie is absolutely right, a dance studio is the best place to rehearse in my opinion (mainly because you have the mirrors).

If you speak to the person you are renting a studio from and explain you are using the room for rehearsal space, they may give you a discount. My rent rates are much higher when I am using a dance studio for teaching as oppose to rehearsal space for example.

Also if you want to keep costs down a bit then it may be worth booking a block spot for say 2hrs and sticking it out in there with a mega rehearsal session Once you have developed your routine to near its final stages, you will be able to break it down in front of the mirrors and see it being performed, but because you kind of already know what you are doing and the direction you are going, you won't be wasting your time/money pondering on what to do.
I find it much more cost effective to develop my ideas and trial small pieces of choreography at home and then when I have a clearer idea of composition I will think about renting rehearsal space.

Another option to try too, is to perhaps look at renting a village hall. They can be quite cheap to rent depending on location.

I use the dance studio where I'm a member of the gym when there are no clases on and they let me use it for free, afternoons it's always empty.
