    Question Burlesque Name

    Hey folks.
Iv'e been interested in burlesque for quite some time and Iv'e come up with quite a few routines.
Hopefully in April/may I will have performed.
But something is missing... A name.
I used to go under the name Lady Lace, but then I found out about the American Burlesque dancer. Now I'm Wildes Opheliac.
I'd love a new name more catchy and fun-loving. My only problem is I have noo idea what name to go for, at all!
Wildes Opheliac is mainly used for my modelling but have since returned to calling myself by my real name for modelling.
I'd love it if anyone could help me or send advice my way with my problem.
    Thank you
    x

    Hi

Well my burlesque name is based on my real name - not sure if that's a route you could take? I know other people who have based their names on things they like and colours.

When you think of your character as a burlesque performer what springs to mind? I like Wildes Opheliac but if you're not happy could you adjust it - maybe swap the names around?

I was born in Cork, Ireland. When you think of a cork, you tend to think of it popping. Penelope because it also begins with 'p' - and because I like it. Put together and that's how I got my name.

Perhaps you could use a similar technique? you could use a hobby you love or perhaps you're known for a particular personality trait i.e. wit, brutal honesty etc.

    hope this helps

I'm Rainbow Sparkles because I'm told I'm a colourful character and the sparkles just came to mind, originally I was thinking Dolly Sparkles but there was a girl already called Dolly as a first name and I didn't want people to mix us up.
There's no end to this Rainbow!

When you are starting out, it's very hard to find a name that you like that suits your style - I remember racking my brains really hard to think of somethng that I liked. What I would say is don't worry about it so much, choose one that you like the sound of, play with colours, numbers, sweets, booze, animals, countries, anything that you enjoy or have a passion for (but make sure you google different spellings of it to ensure that there aren't any other performers using it so things don't get confusing - or legal!) and if you don't like it further down the line, it's quite easy to change it if you find one that suits you better...

When I started performing burlesque I had a totally different name... I was Lala Rouge for two years. This was a name I chose for various reasons but as I continued performing it was clear that it didn't suit my style. I wasn't comfortable with something so generically 'burlesque' sounding that didn't sound 'me' particularly because my acts are mostly Victorian themed characters and I wanted something that reflected that (thanks to Diva Hollywood for christening me!). Promoters won't be put off or confused if you change your name in the future as all it would take is a simple line under your chosen name stating that you were formerly 'x'

    Hope that helps!

Well, I've got two. One for my modeling that I've had for a couple years now, and now my Burly Name - Which I've inadvertently stolen from an Austin Powers character (never seen the movies). I just love foxes and wanted to include "Vixie" somewhere in the name and then I thought of the ACTUAL "dicks e normous" joke and combined them.

So although it's likely that I'll be changing it soon, to prevent any mix-ups, that's how I got my first name.
