    Wink Drag Kings & Burlesque

    Well hello there!

New to this interesting site & stumbled on it by complete accident but it is exactly what I need.....or perhaps what I have been needing for sometime now. Im super excited to learn, give & accept real feedback from other people with the same passion as myself. The only sad thing is = it's way too late & past my bedtime....so I will have to return tomorrow after rehearsal for yes......my next burlesque show ;-) So excited to be in a community with common interests!!

By the way, Im a cheesball and tend to ramble when Im excited.....just LaLa!!

Anyhoot....I started doing burlesque a little over a year ago by complete accident. My roots come strictly from performing with the Drag community and having some amazing Queens & Kings express feedback to me goofing around & teasing on stage. I have since fallin in love with performing in & out of the gay community. The past year has obviously taught me a lot - but with that, I also know there is a lot more to learn. I have great hopes that this site will allow me to get some answers and/or suggestions to questions that my poor little dog & cat just cant answer.

I must depart for now because it is late in my world but ta ta for now

    LaLa

sorry if I miss led you to believe that the kings also did burlesque.....they dont They have just been an amazing support troupe to share their stage with me & give me feedback and honesty. Funny you mentioned kings doing burlesque because we are planning a "turn-a-bout show" soon as I was hoping to put some of favorite drag kings in corsets!!! (not to mention, I myself would love to be in drag!!)

    Hi La La,

Burlesque as a theatre form is entwinned with Drag King history - the first Burlesque star (Eliza Vestris) kick started the whole 'principal boy' character in 1817 and then, at the turn of the 19th century, Vesta Tilley pioneered the Drag King - she is till a symbole of female empowerment today.

    Great to have you aboard.

Here in Glasgow we are lucky to have one of the founders of the New York drag king movement, Diane Torr. As well as lecturing in dance/performance art, Diane is famous for her "King for a Day" classes. She makes an appearance in the film Venus Boys which you should definitely check out.
