burlesque in devon
Right I have thought that it is about time we get a group of people who are interested in the same thing, who live in the same area to get together. I would love to meet other burlesque beauties and as it is, there is not a lot happening in Devon such as clubs or even lessons. I live in a town called Totnes in the South Hams district and would really like to meet up. If just for a chat or even to start up some kind of group to do performances to get burlesque up and coming in Devon.

we are also starting classes as of 19th of febuary
as well as like has been said already Kinkey and Quirkey in exeter which is an amazing one night a month gig. That is taking part this weekend on valentines day at havannah in exeter. unfortunatly i cant attened but my troupe will be twirling and whirling away.
there are also random nights that aren't frequent that crop up here and there.

Hello, Lolita Here, I'm another member of the Naughty Toes and Muffin Tops, along with Peachy. We dance at Annabels regularly, it's a lovely little club on the barbican in Plymouth, and we're about to start a course of lessons there on Thursday nights. We'd love to get as many people as possible involved...in both our classes and performances as we've found the best nights are definitely the ones where the crowd is full of die hard burly-Qers. So tell as many people as you can about us and the clubs we've mentioned and hopefully we can get a bit of a scene going xx

Hi All!
I am a member of the community initiative that is the EAT Theatre Company Production which is based in Exeter, Devon and have been cast in The Voluptuous Atrocity, a play you may be familiar with and forms one of a collection of plays from Grand Guignol, which is parisian theatre and was founded in 1897 by Oscar Metenier.
We are due to perform at the end of October 2010 at The Barnfield Theatre, Exeter. My Character Djana is an 'exotic dancer' and for the part will perform burlesque dancing and use this style of movement throughout the piece, therefore we have a need for a Burlesque choreographer and was wondering if this is a project that a local burlesque dancer would like to get involved in? You would be required to work with me to help develop the character and dance purformances. We would certainly really appreciate your help on this project, which will be the first productions created by EAT (Exeter Alternative Theatre) Company.
We are due to perform in October 2010 at The Barnfield Theatre, Exeter over 3 nights and will perform 4 plays a night in total. But the director for The Voluptuous Atrocity also does film work and would like to film our play to create a short film in September, so this is a great opportunity to have your burlesque choreography skills showcased both locally and possibly elsewhere!
Below are some details of The Voluptuous Atrocity in case you are not familiar with the play.....
The Voluptuous Atrocity is an extravaganza of sex, sadism and murder most foul. Our protagonist and anti-hero, the deliciously toxic Djana, is a Medea-esque femme fatale: a creature caught between two cultures and removed from the country of her birth. She finds herself married into “the establishment” of a conservative Imperial society which is deeply hypocritical in its attitudes towards sex and pleasure (as evinced by the debauchery of the Folies-Bergère and Olympia), and also entirely smug and self-satisfied in the appraisal of its own moral virtues as superior to those “barbaric”, indigenous beliefs of its colonies.
We would certainly really appreciate your help on this project, which will be the first productions created by EAT (Exeter Alternative Theatre) Company.
If you are interested in becoming involved with this production and can offer us your assistance in burlesque choreography, please do get in touch asap, look forward to hearing from you!!!! If you are a burlesque group there may also be the opportunity to perform on the nights of the performances, for more info please get in touch. As this is a community initiative, this is a volutary position.
Thank you!!!

Many thanks

I can only add what others have already said on this thread, but just to update, Kinky and Quirky's are now monthly at the Rainbow Rooms in Torquay... It's a fabulous venue, like stepping into the Goodfellows film set! They have loads of fabulous events going on, and they are also planning a 3 day burlesque festival in April... Also, I think they still run burlesuqe workshops in Exeter with Venus Noir
Kitty Kane also runs burlesque workshops in plymouth, so there is a lot going on in Devon! Wish I lived there! X
