Default Complete beginner - confession to make

Well, I joined this site because I'm a fan of 18th century fashions and women, am obsessed with pole dancing and think I would happily use fans, parasols, gorgeous clothes and props, etc, to my advantage. And just generally find burly sexy, fascinating and beautiful.

But I must admit I find the prospect of removing my clothes, using nipple tassles and generally being outrageous in public a little daunting.

Of course, I know there are different forms and levels of burly and they do not all require nudity, but I am slightly worried that if I went to a meeting or class, I would be the only one feeling self-conscious.

    Can anyone help me?

If you went to a class you'd probably find that if there was one person who wasn't feeling self-conscious, they'd be the odd one out! Nerves are natural and to be expected, so don't feel bad about having them.

If you don't feel comfortable taking your clothes off, don't do it - simple as. No one would expect you to or look down on you for not doing. I'm sure as well that if you went to a class no one would pressure you into doing anything you didn't feel comfortable with.

Take things at your own pace and don't worry so much!

    Hi Victoria.

As Fleur says, do what your comfortable with or that which appeals to you and nothing more. Confidence will build and you may or may not feel differently a bit later in time. I would have thought that pole dancing involves wearing less than quite a few performers would often wear. To state the obvious (which sometimes escapes the mind), wearing little is different to wearing nothing.

The main thing is to enjoy your classes.

Yes, pole dancing generally involves wearing little clothing, but as I'm still learning it I'm still at the vest and shorts stage, ha ha!

I guess you're right, though - I should stop worrying and just enjoy myself. I think seeing how established many of you guys are on here made me feel a bit small fry!

Whether anyone else admits it or not, you will not be the only one feeling self conscious. And the more you know of the members of your class, they less they are 'public'.

As said before it's not obligatory. You can also learn something for yourself, not everyone's a performer, nor intends to be so. And if you do, there are burly acts that don't take a stitch of clothing off at all.

Have a hoot, learn something fabulous. There are no rules.

I have every respect for anyone who can manage to pole dance.

Thanks, you've all been very reassuring! Pleased to know that not everyone on here is a performer, as when I first started browsing the forum, I thought you were!

hi, i'm new to this too and was worried about the same thing. I've signed up to a few classes at the start of next year and i did ask them how far it would be going, and i was told it'd underwear over my clothes.

I'm really nervous but really excited. Burlesque is my personality and i've only just wracked up the courage to do it

Taffeta......you'll have a ball sweetie. The classes will be great fun and signing up is the first hurdle, which you have already acheived.

BTW.......Welcome to MoB.....but be warned, this site is deliciously addictive!!
