Help! Advice needed on signature act/prop!
Hello lovelies!
I am putting together a burlesque act, and just would like to make sure I'm not copying anybody! I've seen performers use and come out of giant 'presents', but does anyone know of a burlesque act where the performer is actually wrapped up? I love ribbons and bows, and was thinking of wrapping myself up, tearing bits of the paper off, and finally ripping the wrapping open with a stiletto! (tried this already, its fun!) I've googled it and not seen anything similar, but thought I'd ask around!
Thanks in advance!

Hi honey
Scarlet fever I think has a wrapped present act. Sorry babe, you will have to ask her if she is still doing it.
Hugs

Hey! thankyou for letting me know - I just messaged her describing my planned act, and explained that I didn't want to tread on her toes and wouldn't use it if she would mind. It's quite difficult thinking of a 'new' act... If not, I could just tie myself up in giant bows and remove them one by one? Or do you think that'd be odd... I just love bows! x x x

Hmmmm... Oh I don't know, I just think if I had a prop it'd be easier to, well, act... and it would add another dimension to my routine, which might make it easier to choreograph. I might experiment with some bows and tie up underwear? (thanks for the suggestion VioletEyes
) Everthing else I think of has already been done before! Except for being a doll, in one of them boxes that Barbies come in... with cellophane front and maybe paper back which I could come out of. I'm just not feeling that creative :P x x x

I believe Millie Dollar used to do a striptease routine where she removed ribbons tied around her in bows - you'd have to check with her to be sure
The doll routine has been done by many performers including Kittie Klaw, Vicky Butterfly, and Golden De Licious - I think!
Yep - everything anyone thinks of has already been done before. The trick is not to try to find an original idea - you'll drive yourself mad because there are only a limited number of themes that can work onstage and you can guarantee that if yours is a good idea, someone else will have it too - but to approach your idea in a way that no one else has done before. A certain amount of crossover is only to be expected - it's when you copy acts wholesale that there's a problem, and you don't seem like you'd want to try to do that - so stop worrying so much!

thanks hun... It just seems like such a minefield of not wanting to offend anyone! I've got most of a routine but its just lacking something. Think I'll dance around the bedroom with various items to experiment! Sure I'll get there eventually!

Simple enough - if you come up with an idea you really like and find it's similar to another performer's act, send them a message. Most established performers have dealt with the situation before - from both sides - and are approachable, so you should be able to work out a compromise without offending anyone
