Complete novice!
Hi all, I am a complete and utter novice here and I just thought I would introduce myself and ask a few questions. I was wondering (this might sound silly) but is there an age limit to burlesque? I am 42 and a grandmother (although I don't consider myself too old for anything). I know absolutely nothing about burlesque, but am hopefully here to learn. I saw Dita on tv and thought she was amazing so did a little research which led me here.
As a single parent and a student I can't afford classes, but I am willing to try and teach myself (and I am saving up for the MOB dvd). I was also wondering if there was any advice etc you can give me on how to go about finding more out about burlesque. Until I joined here I didn't realise there were shows or classes. I live in a village in the middle of nowhere. I am really glad I found this site as it is really useful and very friendly.

Have fun with the dvd when you get it.

Hello honey and welcome to MOB, the dvd is so fun, just finished watching it myself. Mob academy actually hold their own workshops which travel around, you could see if there is one coming to your area or somewhere near. Go and see as many shows as possibly, i am a mummy of two myself and i know money is always an issue but it really inspires to see a live burlesque show
wish u all the best xxxx

Hi Honey, and welcome to MoB - but be warned.....this site is deliciously addictive!!!!
You will be right at home with burlesque in no time. You can even use MoB credits to buy your DVD - yay!!!!! Just PM Dashy to find out more. I'm a 37 year old single mum myself and just LOVE all of this. I have learnt sooooooo much on this site and made many genuine friends, I have been lucky enough to meet many of them too.
Let us know how you get on with your burlesque journey and just sit back and enjoy the ride. It's lots of fun - promise!!!
kisses

Welcome to the site Honey
You're never too old or too anything to do burlesque! This site has loads of info on the history of burlesque and how it's interpreted today. In particular the FAQs are particularly useful
I'd also recommend having a look at burlesque vids on You Tube (there are heaps).
Don't be afraid to ask questions either, you'll find forumites very helpful and supportive.
Have fun!

Aww thank you for all the replies. I will def have a look at the FAQ's, and I have been searching youtube. Am currently attempting to copy their "how to" videos to get a hairstyle (with absolutely no success whatsoever). I am fast finding out this site is addictive, and lots of fun too
Love n kisses Honey
P.S. Merry Christmas xxxx

Welcome to the site hunny!
I would thoroughlly reccomend the DVD!
All I know about age in burlesque is that you have to be 18 to perform (Damn it! I have another 7 months and 21 days to go!)
Hope to see if you on other threads and chat to you soon.
Love,

YouTube - 1940s Hair in Under 5 Minutes (Tutorial)
I think this is the best video going on youtube as far as Vinatge hair styling goes!
Her technique is very easy to learn and with plenty of practice (and hairspray) you'll be able to do it with your eyes shut!
(The "rats" she uses are simply a hair doughnut cut in half!)
