Starting out
Hi there
I orderedthe MOB dvd, for a complete novice its quite useful i also bought a strip tease book from anne summers on BOGOF offer, dead cheesy but had a few handy hints in it!! I alsohave Dita Von Teese's book on burlesque and fetish quite handy but its cost £25 bit pricey but great on the coffee table! lol I also attend classes in newcastle, some ran by MOB burlesque babes (viva mis adventure & gypsy charms) they are doing the fandance class in feb! better get my tickets booked soon!
Good Luck Hun!

I'd say the best way to learn is to do tons of research....there are loads and loads of burlesque performances on YouTube and Veoh, and even better if you can get to see live performances (get Deb to take you to Scarlet Fever presents Burlesque in Stoke on Feb 21st, and/or to the Silk Stocking Striptease Show on Jan 24th and/or Cherry Pop Peepshow on Feb 14th....and there might be a Red Rocks coming up to, but I'm afraid I don't know any dates)
Edit:
Just spotted from El Kapitan that Red Rocks is next on Jan 30th - http://www.myspace.com/feytishpresents
Watching other performers perform either live or on vid - their costumes, their mannerisms, their styles, especially whether comic or sexy etc will greatly help you work out what you like and what you'd like to try and I'm sure is one of the best ways of learning.
But classes or the MoB beginners burlesque dvd are good too if you want to gain a bit of confidence and learn some basic moves to include initially in routines - if there's any chance on getting on a Jo King course I heartily recommend it (ask Deb, she photographed one and it nearly made her want to join in).....LuluSpanx ran last year but I can't find any details at the mo of any more due in the Midlands
Looking forward to meeting you at an event in the Midlands in the future! The Russian Doll Lass - like Shrek's onion, but with sequins...

Just thought I'd mention that the Dita book is around £10 in Topshop - or at least it was the other day x

one thing i find really helpfull is performing in front of a very good friend once you have pulled a routine together.
they will be able to spot mistakes and give you some more ideas as well.
one more advice when it comes to your costume and performance, that is so obvious, but still... cut out the labels... i didn't at my first performance and the label of my panty stuck out. that sucks!
