Hi, Learn Online???
Hi.
My name is Queenie and I live in Bristol.
For my 18th I want to have a Burlesque themed party and would really like to learn to dance for it
I don't have much money as I'm currently looking for a job so thought the net would be a great place to look but i really dont know what to look for. I'm also worried that i'm too 'large' to be a Burlesque dancer. I'm in UK size 16..And my Prom Dress was an 18
Also i was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of an inexpensive place to find an outfit for my party, What do you advise wearing? And what about boys outfits?
Oh and music... what sort?
Thanks... sorry there is so much
Queenie

Hi Queenie!
First off, size 16/18? That's absolutely fine! It doesn't matter what size you are in burlesque so long as you are happy and confident
We are of all shapes and sizes here from a size 6 to size 22 and nobody feels out of place!
As for learning burlesque online. Youtube! Research as many different performers as you can, have a look at what they do, how they do it and find something that sparks your inspiration. There are so many different ways to perform, it's just a matter of finding a way that works for you. So many people get hung up on going to classes and they aren't at all necessary.
Hmmm an inexpensive place for your party? My favourite place to buy clothes is Vivien of Holloway - Home although her dresses may be quite expensive for you at £69 (I know they are for me!). There is also a sale on at the moment with certain dresses for £39. One word of warning though- her dresses are very small. Measure yourself carefully before ordering, and don't get upset if you have to order a size or 2 up.
If you want something cheaper, Primark can do wonders! Vintage looks always look great. Try pencil skirts with waspie belts and cute little blouses, or halterneck tops with full circle skirts.
As for the boys, suits, trilbys, braces... Think 30s gangster. Or maybe a James Dean look.
Music for your party? If you want something classically burlesque there is a CD called Tease: The Beat of Burlesque which is full of striptease classics such as The Stripper.
Hope that helps, and have fun :grin:Snowflakes and Sparkles
